Speaking of Brooklyn 99, I was looking yesterday to see what if any news of the show, and it is coming back for a final 10-episode season either at the end of this year or beginning of next i found something else.
The French Canadian version of Brooklyn 99, set in Quebec City (yes because Quebec City is the New York of Quebec (it itsn’t but not every show can be set in Montreal lmao)) called Escouade 99. It whitewashes the two latino characters. And apparently the budget for the season is 4 mil, which is the budget for for a single ep of Brooklyn 99.
Here’s a preview:
Every time I remember that Escouade 99 is a thing I take psychic damage.
L'QUÉBEC rend MAUVAIS BROOKLYN 99 avec ESCOUADE 99
this is by far the best breakdown about the issues with escouade 99
So I'm from Québec and I just learned that they decided to re-make a Québec version of Brooklyn 99 (they called it "Escouade 99") and I watched the trailer and I'm literally like... ashamed? Not only did they whitewash the two main latina actresses (which they pointed out on twitter) but the show in itself looks bad... It just looks like they copy/pasted the original script and translated it into french and that's it. It doesn't even sound like they have a true Québec accent, it just sounds like they're trying to sound neutral, which just sounds so weird and unnatural... If at least they really made it a Québec show and included tons of references to our pop culture, spoke with a true accent and idk just adapted it to be a complete Québec version, I could've understood...(It would probably still suck but you know...) but the only changes they made is the language and the names of the characters.
I really don't understand the point of such a remake if there's already a french dubbed version on Netflix.
Please don't associate Québec people with "Escouade 99". No one asked for this. We're all just as dumbfounded as the rest of the world.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk bye
Me: you know what Quebec isn’t really that bad
Escouade 99: *exists*
Me: I take it all back
ya’ll see that quebec is making a no name 99?
quebec will be broadcasting their homemade brooklyn 99 remake - in well, quebec french - and i'm
