The ISG received a report that possibly thousands of sellers had their Etsy shops closed down this week. Concerningly, many of them seem to be sellers that also spoke out against the Etsy reserve policy this summer.

If Etsy just suspended your shop, please fill out our form to help us get a better picture of what is going on.

Then please share it and reblog! The more data we have the more effectively we can fight back!

Etsy Bullshit and Question

Hey guys! 

This is another poll/question I’d really appreciate your feedback on. If you can answer it through the poll on twitter, that’d be helpful for collecting numerical data, but if not, a comment/reply is fine!  So Etsy is at it again. I already get a VERY LARGE chunk of my sales taken out by Etsy’s fees and their fee hikes have only been increasing over the pandemic (which is kinda fucking gross.) I’ve been pushing off moving shops because let’s face it, Etsy is the name. That’s where people go to search. It’s the place everyone knows. But honestly, I’m at the end of my rope with them. So my question is, if I moved off of etsy and began promoting a different online storefront, would you still shop there? (This is mostly meant for people who DO buy stuff online, so don’t worry about answering this if you don’t, though reblogs will help me get info and data.) One option is to keep my Etsy storefront up and in the description, link to my new one where the prices are cheaper. That’s definitely a possibility.  Online selling is what keeps me afloat between commissions and conventions and I’m tired of Etsy doing its fee hikes. Thanks for giving this a lookthrough guys!

Update

So... thank you for helping me out with your purchases on my shop this month, and for the reblogs on the various posts too! Etsy fees have taken a lot this month (£63) out of my earnings (as expected, but still, ooof), but my PO Box lease just came up for renewal and that’s a whopping £200 for the next 6 months, so you’ve saved my bacon with your purchases. 

^^ is why I charge for postage, by the way...

How to make an Etsy fee calculator

Hi! I like spreadsheets and with Etsy’s fees going up in a few weeks I thought it would be handy to make an Etsy fee calculator so other small businesses can assess how much they’re being ripped off and if it’s a good idea to move to another platform! You can use any kind of spreadsheet software, including google sheets, excel or libreoffice calc.

My calculator looks like this. Column A is where I put the price I want to receive for my product, Column B calculates what the 6.5% fee is from that price, Column C adds Etsy’s 20c listing fee, Column D shows the consumer cost aka what someone would pay for your product, and Column E just shows what Etsy takes from you. This calculator doesn’t include Etsy’s postage fees since I buy my own stamps.  Formulas: Column A: any dollar amount - how much you want to get for the product Column B: =A2*0.065 - this calculates the percentage

Column C: =A2+0.2 - adds the 20c listing fee

Column D: =B2+C2 - Adds the percentage and listing fee together

Column E: =B2+0.2 - adds the percentage and 20c fee together

If you haven’t used spreadsheet software a lot, you can highlight and drag cells containing formulas so they continue downwards, so in the original formula where is says “A2″ it will automatically continue to say like “A3″ so you can use this to calculate all your product’s prices.
