Sinon, j’ai terminé mon rewatch complet de Dark Angel, et j’aime toujours autant cette série ! C’est juste génial. Par contre, étrangement, c’est surtout la 1re saison qui m’était restée en tête, vraiment. Et j’ai aussi l’impression qu’ils ont oublié leurs crises et les chaleurs de Max en saison 2 😆

Et puis…, j’ai pas réussi à être raisonnable et plutôt que d’essayer de regarder ça tranquillement à un épisode par jour grand max, j’étais plutôt à 3 voire 5 épisodes 😅 Mais j’y peux rien, elle est géniale cette série ! 🤩

Il y a tant de sujets que j’aimerais aborder sur cette série… Peut-être que j’en ferai des billets différents.

La relation entre Max et Logan est relativement saine et belle ! On a trop souvent des mensonges, quiproquo, etc. Là, non… Même la relation Alec et Max est belle. Bon, Zack moins 😅

J’adore comment est traité le handicap de Logan, même si, peut-être égoïstement, j’aurais bien voulu qu’il soit un peu plus souvent mis en avant en fauteuil.

C’est une série qui parle également de lesbianisme avec Original Cindy. Mais également, même si c’est encore plus léger, de transidentité avec, étonnamment, Normal qui le prend beaucoup mieux que Original Cindy… Mais je crois qu’à l’époque, dans la commu LGBT, le T était… mis à l’écart et mal vu par le reste de la commu. J’espère, et j’ai l’impression, que ça a changé.

Et puis globalement, ça parle de transgénique, mais pour moi je vois l’équivalent des personnes étrangères, des immigrés.

On peut voir la même chose dans beaucoup d’autres séries, évidemment, Doctor Who, mais également tout ce qui parle d’extraterrestres ou de mutants à la X-Men.

Les gens ont peur de ce qu’ils ne comprennent pas. Quand ils ont peur, ils sont méchants, voire violents. Et quand ils connaissent des personnes « différentes », ils se rendent compte qu’elles sont comme les autres, comme tout le monde, comme eux. D’où l’importance d’inclure tout le monde partout et de ne pas catégoriser de ne pas faire de ségrégation.

Ce n’est bien sûr pas tout ce que j’ai envie de dire sur la série. Et je pense qu’il faudra que je fasse des billets séparés pour parler de chaque sujet, parce que, pour moi, c’est important aussi pour le coup. Je ne sais pas pour vous.

Mais, vraiment, cette série aurait dû continuer. On a eu le droit à 15 saisons de Supernatural. Attention, je suis pas contre, bien au contraire, je suis très contente. On a eu le droit à 8 saisons de Charmed, 7 de Buffy contre les vampires, 5 d’Angel, et 2 de Dark Angel… C’est triste et inzuste !

Je reviendrai pour parler de tout ça séparément à mon avis. Vu que je me refais tout le MCU, depuis le X-Men de 2000, je vais peut-être faire des billets à ce sujet.

J’aime bien analyser et faire le parallèle avec la vie réelle. Tout au début que je regardais des séries ou des films, je faisais pas forcément le rapprochement. Évidemment, en grandissant, je me suis rendu compte assez vite que beaucoup beaucoup de personnes ne pensaient pas comme moi sur la tolérance. Je m’en suis toujours foutue de savoir l’origine, la couleur de peau, la religion des personnes, ce qu’elle faisait de sa vie sexuelle/sentimentale. Pour moi, ce sont tous des êtres humains. Et c’est pas parce qu’un ancêtre 4 générations avant a fait quelque chose, que la personne qui est devant nous pense pareil. Du coup, sachant que beaucoup de gens sont intolérants, les séries qui dénoncent, même de manière détournée, me touchent encore plus.

Après, il y a ceux qui sont naïfs, ceux qui ne cherchent pas plus loin ou, pire, ceux qui ont des œillères et qui ne veulent pas comprendre les choses. Eux, il faut leur dire clairement les sous-entendus des séries sur la tolérance. Je ne comprends pas les gens qui aiment les séries qui prônent la tolérance avec les personnes différentes et qui, pourtant, sont tout l’inverse dans la vie réelle…

Sur ce, je vais aller lire les trois livres de Dark Angel, pour la toute première fois. Je sais que le 1er, et peut-être le 2e, ça reprend la série et que le 3e est la suite qu’ils n’ont pas pu faire à la TV. Et vu qu’il m’est très difficile de ne pas commencer une série (tv, livre, anime, films) par le tout début, ben je vais reprendre depuis le début (et puis, ce n’est que 3 tomes). Pour mon plus grand plaisir à mon avis.

And then… I couldn’t be reasonable. Instead of trying to pace myself at one episode a day (max), I was easily binging 3 to 5 episodes 😅 But I can’t help it—this show is so good! 🤩

There are so many topics I’d love to dive into about this series… I might make separate posts for them.

Max and Logan’s relationship is relatively healthy and beautiful. Too often in shows, we get endless lies, misunderstandings, and so on. Here, we don’t… Even the relationship between Alec and Max is lovely. (Zack’s not so much 😅)

I love how Logan’s disability is handled, even if—maybe selfishly—I would have liked to see them in their wheelchair a bit more often.

The show also touches on lesbianism with Original Cindy, and—more subtly—transness with, surprisingly, Normal, who handles it much better than Original Cindy. But I think that, back then, within the LGBT community, the T was… sidelined and looked down on by the rest of the community. I hope (and I get the feeling) that this has changed.

Overall, it talks about transgenics, but to me, it feels like an allegory for foreigners and immigrants.

We see the same thing in many other series—obviously Doctor Who, but also anything dealing with aliens or mutants, like X-Men.

People fear what they don’t understand. When they’re afraid, they become mean, or even violent. But when they actually get to know “different” people, they realize they’re just like everyone else, just like the rest of the world, just like them. That’s why it’s so important to include everyone everywhere—and not categorize or segregate people.

This is obviously not everything I want to say about the show. And I think I’ll have to do separate posts to discuss each topic, because to me, it's really important. I don't know about you. I love analyzing things and drawing parallels with real life. When I first started watching TV shows or movies, I didn’t necessarily connect the dots. Obviously, growing up, I realized pretty quickly that a lot of people don’t share my views on tolerance. I’ve never given a damn about someone's background, skin color, religion, or what they do with their love/sex life. To me, we are all human beings. And just because an ancestor four generations ago did something doesn’t mean the person standing in front of us thinks the same way. So, knowing how intolerant many people are, shows that call it out—even metaphorically—touch me even more.

Then, there are those who are naive, those who don't look any deeper, or worse, those who wear blinders and just refuse to understand. For them, you have to spell out the underlying messages of tolerance in these shows. I honestly don’t understand people who love TV shows that preach tolerance for those who are different, yet act completely opposite in real life...

On that note, I’m off to read the three Dark Angel books for the very first time. I know the 1st, and maybe the 2nd, cover the series, and the 3rd is the continuation they never got to make for TV. And since I find it very hard not to start a franchise (TV show, book, anime, movie) from the absolute beginning, well, I’m going back to page one (plus, it’s only 3 volumes). I’m pretty sure I’m going to love it.

It was the day that Logan Cale/Eyes Only had been waiting for since he had started representing the downtrodden, Max knew: the day he could finally unplug for good.

America, by some miracle Max could still hardly believe, was finally back on the right track, and they didn't need Eyes Only's guidance anymore.

Stepping into Joshua's old house now, that had become Logan's own after White had destroyed his old crib, Max sat in the arm chair across from Logan as he did his final broadcast-imploring the people to do good and power on-and she couldn't help but to smile.

"Do you want a glass of wine to go with a job well done?" Max asked her boyfriend, once he ended the broadcast and turned his attention to her, with a conflicted look upon his face. Alec had suggested she bring a bottle of Chardonnay over for Logan when the mayor of Terminal City eventually saw him on this day of all days (she, however, would be drinking grape juice).

And while at first, Max had laughed that idea off like she did most of Alec's thoughts... in the end, she had realized he was actually pretty sound in his reasoning. And so the transgenic had went shopping and made sure to have the different bottles with her in her messenger bag when she rode her baby here.

Laughing-for he surely remembered their old nightly routines of drinking when they'd first met like, just like she did-Logan went to his kitchen to grab wine glasses for the both of them and then held his glass out for Max to fill. "I can't think of any better way than to celebrate this day, actually. Thank you, Max."

"Yeah, well, you kept your nose to the grindstone for years there-when anyone with any sense would have just given up, and called it a lost cause-so I'm thinkin' a celebration is definitely warranted here," Max said, filling her own glass and then taking a sip of the juice.

She missed alcohol, she did, but this was definitely a nice alternative to it.

But back to the whole Eyes Only and America thing, Max still couldn't quite figure out how things had changed for the better.

She supposed it had all started when the transgenics, plus Logan, had decided to walk out of Terminal City, because they'd needed supplies and since Logan wouldn't have been able to stay in the toxic environment much longer.

Naturally, the police had threatened to shoot them all-something Max had really thought was going to happen for a moment there-until Max had wisely asked if they actually planned to kill them all on national TV, for just taking a walk, the way that Cece had been murdered.

That right there had been enough to get Detective Clemente to listen and let them pass... and amazingly for public opinion to begin to change about the transgenics, though Max and her crew hadn't realized it at the time.

Max had been named the mayor of Terminal City after that, but she'd barely had any time to learn how to politic at all before that doomsday meteor that White had been salivating over for his lifetime had shown up on the horizon.

Max's blood was the key to give humanity an immunity to the illness the comet would spread within them-something that Max had learned from Sansderman: who, God help them all, had secretly been Normal the whole time. ...Max still didn't really like thinking about that, and all of the mixed feelings that brought up in her.

Thankfully, Normal had revealed that they could make synthetic copies of Max's blood to give to everyone, so they wouldn't have to bleed her dry, by using generated proteins.

All-in-all, it wasn't too dissimilar to what Max and Logan had gone through in finding a cure for the Virus... So Max's people had placed the cure into the water supply, and humanity had lived to see another day-and Max, Logan, Alec, Joshua, Zack, Syl, and Krit had stomped White and his doomsday cult into the ground when he'd thrown a fit about things not having gone his way.

Fortunately, Eyes Only had let the world know that Max's blood had saved their lives. And not only had that action of Max's succeeded in giving the transgenics their freedom once and for all... Max having chosen to be a god damn superhero, she supposed, inspired the good that was left in humanity to finally rise up.

While a number of corrupt leaders had awkwardly been twiddling their thumbs, in seeing the world change for transgenics... and in learning that they weren't as immortal as they'd thought and that a transgenic, of all people, had rescued them all, a number of Logan's journalist buddies had risen up overnight and seized power from them, in the kind of coup that Manticore would have been proud of.

Things had really started to come around then... though Max and Logan weren't fools, and knew that some of these newly appointed leaders would turn against their own people for power (and some had). Eyes Only had told the public that he was hopeful about things, but that he, for the time being, would keep an eye on this new America to make sure she ran as she was meant to. (And if it was ever found that these politicians were dirty, it wasn't too hard for Logan to send in his favorite cat burglar, Max now laughed at the thought, and find evidence against them and expose it all, so the Americans would revolt against them).

That had been three years ago now, and Max reckoned things were as squeaky clean as they were ever going to be. And so Eyes Only was finally hanging up the mic.

"Be honest," Max teased, upon swirling her grape juice in her wineglass so thoroughly, that she would have spilled some of it if she wasn't who she was, "you're going to miss hearing yourself talk, just a smidge."

To that, Logan chuckled before winking at Max and saying, "Believe me when I say that the only time I want to hear 'my voice' echo back to me now, is when our daughter repeats what I'm saying to learn how to speak."

"Pfft. You think Alia's going to need to do that? With how smart our girl's gonna be, I wouldn't be surprised if she comes out of the womb talking," Max said half-jokingly and half-seriously. Because while she hoped that that wasn't the case, and before Tin-Tinga had been the only X5 capable of passing on her super-powered traits to her offspring, Max knew that she was different (Sanderman's chosen one or whatever). And that, added in with the fact that both of her parents were geniuses, Max wondered if they were going to have their hands full with Alia from the start. She already seemed to be trying to run marathons within the womb, the times she would kick Max, the X5 thought wryly.

Honestly, Max-who had always loved kids-couldn't wait to find out what her daughter would be like, and she knew that Logan was much the same.

"So we fight on?" Logan questioned, meaning about standing up to the cute menace their daughter would surely be, not too differently from when he'd once sat across from her and asked her to help him protect the downtrodden.

"Damn straight."

Not taking their eyes off of each other, the former Eyes Onlys raised their glasses and drank on this day of all days.

Author's Note: An idea that I've had for a while now... that I think, originally, was going to be longer, but it actually ended up being pretty short here. And now I feel like pointlessly expanding this fic would be unnecessary, so I think I'm mostly okay with how it turned out. -shrugs- But maybe if I ever get another idea for this fic's universe, I could add another chapter to this or something.

...I'm not a politician or really politically minded at all. If I'm being honest, I doubt getting things to turn around in the Dark Angel world would be this easy. But I did my best. And actually added in something the writers would have planned to do if the show hadn't been canceled (Max and the transgenics' Rosa Parks moment, as they called it), and a fan theory that existed at the time (that Normal was Sanderman, which makes a weird sort of sense to me).

Finally I finished reading Eyes Only the english translations.

The highlight of this book for me? Endo and Lin's commentary 🤣🤣🤣👏👏

It is very interesting to see that I get the impression that out of all Forgers, Endo loves Yor the most (but it's highly probable that I'm biassed. Duh!!)

I mean, we know that Endo loves strong female - fighting heroines. Especially if we look at Endo's previous works. Like the two serialization: Tista and Gekka Bijjin. Both has strong female heroines as the leader. And then, his one shots also featured female leads. Perhaps only his latest one shots: Ishi ni Usubeni (the one with Medusa kid which later become Anya's prototype) and I spy (the prototype of spy x family) that featured male character as leads.

No wonder Endo can creates so many amazing female characters in spy x family. (Not that the sxf male characters are bad. Far from it!)

But it warm my heart when Endo shows that Yor was the longest he took in creating the character design. (And I also notice that Endo loves to draw Yor in so many cute outfits and accessories 🥰 and also seems to get hurt the most for my whumpy needing souls delightment #ahem)

At the same time, the badass yet cute and naive Yor is the one character that he got trouble the most to develop!

I still remember back then, when we were still at chapter 38-39 ish, Endo did have more breaks than usual, chapters that is focuses on side characters like Damian, Bond, Yuri, Sylvia (short mission), Frankie, all that make the small fandom fans 'restless' for the "too many fillers chapters"

And then there was a tweet of him telling the fans to be patient, because he was planning something.

And then, BAM!! Chp. 43 dropped. A Franky and Yor chapter, that end with Yor getting a call from Shopkeeper. Yes, the chapter we just got the anime episode (ep. 29!)

The small fandom at that time was going ferall over "Garden" name drop. And keep chanting "Yor arc Yor arc Yor arc Yor arc!!"

And then BAM!!! We got one of the best arc ever: Cruise Arc.

With that one gorgeous Yor ilustration that make the small fandom around the world decided 4-6th April to become Yor's day. On the spot.

It's one amazing experiences, ngl.

So if one asked me whether Yor has been pushed to the back, I dare say no.

It's just writing an interesting assassins plot is difficult.

Especially in a story where everything is grey.

WISE is described as the "good" guy who tries in all their might to stop the war. (But are they really? Why are they snooping around inside other country? And why are they badmouthing Ostania?)

SSS is described as the "bad" guy cause they oppressed their own people and manipulate young energetic talent as Yuri to serve them. (But what if it is needed to keep 'peace' from the rebels which of course can be found everywhere in a freshly stopped war country?)

A good story can work with two opposing sides going head to head.

But then there's Garden. Where are their position? A story about three way "war" can be difficult to tell, overly complicated, and too much. On one side, Garden can't be the "good" side because they murder people. But they can't be "bad" either if the people they murder are the bad guys. However who to tell which one is good which one is not?

And most important, how to make Yor as a protagonist that is not a villain.

That's hard.

So, judging from the past experiences (when Endo took more breaks than usual), plus this amazing detail analysis by @itsmaferart, I dare say Endo is cooking another Yor or Garden centric arc, after the Eden and SSS vs WISE.

I have high hope for this. 😁😁😁😁

So we shall wait and see.....

Tldr; I think Endo loves Yor. He is preparing for something awesome for her. and I'm not complaining. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
