                                    had      spent      majority      of      his      mornings      alone,      so      one      would      think      the      empty      space      beside      him      wouldn't      bother      him      so      much.      (      or      that      he'd      even      notice,      but      he      does.      )      she'd      slept      next      to      him      all      night,      &      run      at      the      first      sign      of      morning?      ...      doesn't      know      why      he      didn't      expect      that,      but      he      peruses      over      the      indent      in      mattress      as      he      sits      ⸻      wiping      at      eyes      to      wake      himself      up.      only      then      is      he      reminded      of      beaten      &      battered      countenance,      the      cut      above      brow      stinging      as      he      rubs.      does      it      without      thinking,      in      the      comfort      of      his      own      home,      he      doesn't      search      for      his      shirt,      the      sweats      he'd      slept      in      clothing      enough.      saunters      out      into      the      living      room,      trailing      after      the      bathroom to attempt in tending to his wounds,      but      he's      halted      in      his      tracks      ...      elle      stood      within      kitchen,      perched      over      the      stove.      so,      she      hadn't      left      after all?      once      initial      shock      wears      off,      frame      finds      itself      stood      in      archway,      shoulder      pressed      into      the      wall.      ❝      ...      thought      you      left,      ❞      masks      the      relief      in      his      tone      well,      nonchalance      exuding      general      demeanor.      on      the      inside,      a      completely      different      story.      ❝      what're      you      cooking?      ❞

                              the      air      feels      different,      but      that      was      to      be      expected      ⸻      and      she      sort      of      feels      bad      that      hunter      got      the      brunt      of      everything,      whereas      all      she      got      from      kai      was      a      half-assed      text,      along      the      lines      of      '      you      have      my      blessing      '.      she      was      a      bundle      of      nerves,      &      undoubtedly,      overwhelmed.      hadn't      seen      hunter      since      their      little      ...      kitchen      endeavor,      and      absolutely      didn't      want      to      deal      with      kai      on      top      of      that      already.      but      still,      she      breezes      into      homme's      abode,      a      soft,      endearing,      smile      pulling      at      brims      when      she      sees      him.      ❝      hey      ...      you      doing      okay?      ❞

                              ❝      hey      ...      ❞      let's      the      syllable      sit,      taking      residency      in      the      seat      adjacent      the      other.      felt      as      though      his      apartment      was      the      safest      place      to      have      this      conversation      ⸻      would      have      preferred      a      public      space,      to      keep      him      from      flying      off      the      handle,      but      figures      he      owed      (      at      least      his      sister      )      some      semblance      of      privacy.      she's      not      there,      though,      it's      just      the      two      of      them.      kai      &      hunter      ...      the      best      of      buddies.      his      dining      room      seems      eerily      quiet,      but      maybe      it      was      the      awkwardness      ...      bordering      on      the      line      of      pure,      unadulterated,      anger      threatening      to      spill      out      of      him      at      any      moment.      clears      his      throat.      ❝      sorry      i      wasn't      around      last      night      ...      what'd      you      end      up      getting      into?      ❞

                                    corners      of      his      mouth      feel      sore      ,      from      the      way      he'd      been      smiling      ear      to      ear      .      a      rare      sight      for      the      male      ,      in      truth      ,      he      was      partial      in      his      ways      of      stoicism      ...      focused      one      hundred      and      twenty      percent      of      the      time      .      it      was      moments      like      this      that      gave      him      the      opportunity      to      shed      ⸻      allow      himself      the      opportunity      to      enjoy      something      .      plaque      sits      in      front      of      the      pair      ,      his      name      etched      into      the      glass      .      most      valuable      player      .      he'd      be      lying      if      he      said      he      was      surprised      ,      he'd      worked      for      this      all      season      ,      but      it      still      felt      surreal      .      even      more      so      ,      a      combination      of      it      all      .      he      won      ,      and      xeriz      was      sat      beside      him      .      leans      forward      against      elbows      ,      hues      flickering      across      femme's      face      in      an      instance      .      he      was      buzzing      ,      not      even      from      the      alcohol      ,      but      from      everything      .      ❝      how      should      we      celebrate      ,      hm      ?      there's      an      after      party      .      i      know      how      you      love      those      .      ❞
