 he’s   gripping   onto   his   thigh   with   a   still   gloved   hand,   just   above   where   the   sword   sliced   through   his   leg.   the   glove   is   sticker   than   before   —   that’s   probably   not   a   good   sign.   ❛   we   ...   we   can’t   stay   here.   ❜   his   words   come   out   breathless,   but   not   as   harsh   as   before.   then   he   again,   despite   her   telling   him   not   too   ...  tries   to   get   back   up.   ❛   they’ll   come   back   ...   and   they’ll   be   more   of   them.   ❜

attitude was to be expected, she was after all just …   what, sixteen?  thirty?  something in between.   didn’t really matter at the end of the day.    when everyone around is  so terribly younger  than you,  you just stop keeping track.  it didn’t change the fact that she acted as a  rebellious youth  no matter what,  and he in turn had to play the role of  inspiring, wise  and  grounded  paternal figure.  the one who was always right.  the one who never failed.  it was truly a  burden  that only he could carry.  and god, how he did it well.

      her  eyes  harden  against  the  words,  a  part  of  her  not  understanding.  “  there  is  no  back. ”  she  tries  to  make  her  voice  as  hard  as  her  eyes,  conveying  what  she  believes  to  be  true.  nothing  to  go  back  to,  the  road  always  went  forward.
