    ~ Review of Garnier’s Micellar Cleansing Gel Wash ~

Brrrr - autumn is well and truly here! While I love cooler temperatures, crisp evening walks and dark nights, I am going to miss summer terribly 🥺 However, one thing that’ll be staying with me from one season to the next is this face wash by Garnier, so let me tell you all about it!

I bought this face wash online before going to Spain for the summer, as I wanted something lightweight, refreshing and gentle to wash off all the sweat and sunscreen with day after day. This product claims to be suitable for combination and sensitive skin, which is perfect for me as my skin gets oily easily yet doesn’t tolerate strong ingredients very well. 

While I’m accustomed to micellar water, I’d never heard of a micellar gel wash before so that definitely intrigued me about this product. It’s designed to remove make-up, mattify your skin and cleanse your face, eyes and lips in a gentle, non-irritating way. It has no perfume either which makes sure it really has a delicate touch 👍  

This face wash has a lovely, soft lather to it and a little goes a long way, as it foams up very quickly and plentifully. My skin is left feeling fresh and clean without feeling tight or stripped in any way, and I have noticed a less oily appearance to my skin on the whole. This product doesn’t interfere with my breakouts either - it’s so gentle it doesn’t irritate them or make them more inflamed in any way.

I can’t say much about the make-up removing properties of this product as the thought of rubbing a micellar gel onto a full face of foundation grosses me out a bit 😬 But I have used this on leftover eye make-up and it whisks away any trace of mascara and eyeliner in a jiffy. I’d rather stick to my face halo for this though, as my eyes get super sensitive and dry and so it’s better for me to keep foam away from them! 

I think this face wash is perfect for anyone with oily, combination or sensitive skin and for those who want a basic cleanser to get the job done💕

Looking after oily skin in the sunshine☀️

Here in Wales it is absolutely boiling outside at the moment - something we’re not quite used to here at all! Now the weather is heating up and it’s time to slap on the sunscreen more often, it can be tricky keeping oily complexions cool and balanced. Here are some quick and easy tips for dealing with this very problem 👇  

1. Get your foam on 🧼 

To start the day off as squeaky clean as possible, use a gentle, foaming cleanser in the morning. This will dissolve oil and impurities while leaving your skin feeling cool and soothed before hitting the hot sunshine. Look for cleansers containing charcoal, clay or salicylic acid to give your skin the head-start it needs.

2. Tone it up 

There’s nothing more refreshing than whipping out a bottle of cooling spray to use all over while you’re on holiday after a long day at the beach. While we’re not able to venture out further than our front door at the moment, you can recreate that same instant relief by using a spritz toner throughout the day. Simply spray the toner over your face for a quick pick-me-up which will leave your skin feeling hydrated and mattified in seconds.

3. Powder your nose (and face!)

A priceless discovery I made a few years ago was powdered sunscreen. Instead of lathering myself in thick creams that leave me as shiny as a disco ball, this alternative formula makes my skin matte and healthy-looking. I like to top it up during the day with a spare powder brush, which means it also doubles up as a translucent powder over make-up. It’s a win-win!

4. Get a little help from your tools

I’ve recently added a muslin cloth and silicone cleansing brush to my daily skincare routine. I use the muslin cloth with micellar water and the silicone cleansing brush with my foaming cleanser, and they’ve both enhanced the efficiency of my skincare products massively. They can help with skin texture as well as providing a deep clean - something we all need after sweating in the sun. I also use a Face Halo to remove my make-up at night, which gives a gentle yet powerful cleanse after a long day. 

5. Blot it out 

If you’ve been busy tanning outside and you’ve got a video call coming up with an employer, teacher or best friend, blotting papers can bail out oily skin in no time. They’re a quick and easy way to mattify oily hot-spots like the T-zone, and they don’t make your skin feel clogged up in a way re-powdering with make-up can. On top of that they’re incredibly cheap too, so they can benefit anyone and everyone.

Oh, the powers of make-up. 

Being able to cover up blemishes, add a healthy glow to the skin or completely transform the way we look from day to day are some of the main things I absolutely love about make-up. I know not all of my followers reading this are fans of make-up or wear it very little, but I wanted to include a make-up removing product here as it’s a nifty skincare tool too. 

WHY I RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT 

So, as those of you who wear make-up know, it can be an absolute pain to take it off at night. Waterproof make-up can be almost impossible to remove (even when using products specifically for removing it) and buying endless packs of cotton pads and micellar water is an added hindrance. But, these are all things the Face Halo solves.

I had this product as a Christmas present, and honestly I’m completely in love with it. With water alone, it removes every single scrap of make-up in just a couple of minutes. Just soak it under the tap, swipe it across your face and before you know it, you’re ready to apply your nighttime skincare routine. 

By doing this, I’m saving money on stocking up on any other make-up removers as it’s reusable (it should last about 200 washes in the washing machine) and reducing the amount of plastic and cotton I’m using. Plus, I can take it in the shower with me, wipe off all my make-up and grime from the day before moving onto classic existential shower thoughts 🤙

For those who don’t wear make-up, this is still a handy way to remove any sunscreen you’ve been wearing throughout the day. The fibers are soft enough to avoid causing any irritation to your skin, yet you still reap the benefits of the deep clean it provides. 

It truly deserves its name 😇
