Introduce yourself My name is Fain (or Julian) and I'm a freelance illustrator/ webcomic artist with a love for supernatural fantasy! Outside of drawing, I spend a lot of time playing FFXIV or reading other folks' webcomics When did you start drawing? Are you a digital or traditional artist? When I first took drawing seriously, I was maybe 8 years old, I was visiting my cousin and saw her FMA artbook and I thought "I want to make things like this!" I do both traditional and digital art Do you use any traditional mediums? If so, which are your favorites? I'm primarily digital but I love sketching and inking traditionally and will sometimes use that as a base for digital works!
Why do you prefer traditional over digital? (or viceversa) I like sketching better traditionally, but love coloring digitally What do you think is the most challenging part about being a traditional/digital artist? Having big ideas that I'm not fully sure how to achieve, but I'll get there! What inspires your pieces? A lot of media I grew up watching mostly, like FMA and Treasure Planet! What I love most about these things are the full and detailed worlds, yet backgrounds and scenery can be the hardest for me to draw, haha
image source: [X] Explain your "everyday" drawing process Usually I just sketch around until I get an idea. Really random things can inspire me on any given day, like a song or a moment I shared with a friend. But most of my works are focused on getting down ideas for my webcomics Do you have an artist you admire (or more than one)?
I have a TON of artists I'm inspired by for all different aspects of art. One of my all time biggest inspirations for color and atmosphere is the artist Loish! https://twitter.com/loishh Is there an artwork you are most proud of? Why? There's a few that I'm pretty proud of, but right now I'm really proud of this poster I made for my webcomic! It gives me a lot of happy feelings like pride and accomplishment. Somehow just having made this poster really encourages me to keep working on my passion project! https://twitter.com/fainfaineant/status/1124090042555740167
Do you listen to music (or tv shows/films/anything else) when drawing? I listen usually to a lot of Lo-Fi chill jazzy tunes to help keep me focused on work. Having anything with a lot of lyrics, words or visuals often distracts me
image source: [X] What makes art interesting for you? My OC's, haha. I just really love creating characters and telling stories What do you do when art block strikes? Well, like most artists I'm sure, sometimes drawing isn't fun for me and I second guess what I'm doing and feel discouraged, but then I think about how much I want to tell stories and I'll start taking notes for comic things and I'll usually feel like creating again What’s the most valuable art advice you’ve ever received?
I'm usually most encouraged by a bunch of tiny things Bob Ross has said! That's probably really simple of me, but I really appreciate things like "anything you want to do, you can do, if you put your mind to it" and "there are no mistakes, just happy little accidents" It's just thoughts like this that keep art fun, rather than as a 'stressful job'

Secret santa present for @fainfaineant! When I was drawing it I kinda forgot that you wanted a mundane setting or playing in the snow so I made a little bonus to make up for that. I hope that you’ll like it anyway.
Happy holidays!
An idea, that you folks probably already thought of. But I know the due date of submissions is very close now and I'm sure you don't have the number you were aiming for. I love fanpro and want to see it keep going, but it's also true it isn't currently nearly as active as it used to be. Couldn't you, along with having post day be once a month, also cut designs from 100 to maybe be, 50? Cut it in half? Or less than, even?
Hi! I see your point, and the mods agree that is much easier to continue having post day be once a month, so we will be continuing this practice for the duration of design submissions.
I’m not sure about cutting down designs, but i’ll definitely speak to the other mods about it. Thanks for your suggestions!!!
