whyyyyyy do so many people rightfully annoyed by "friends don't do that" and "no platonic explanation" stuff decide to hit back with the "oh do you not have real friends? you've never cared about a friend? you've never had an intense or devoted or physically intimate friendship? what the fuck is your problem?" rant. it pisses me off so much. speaking as a person who went a long time without friends because of my neurodivergence and other disabilities. i was on your side about "friends don't do that" being fucking annoying and wrong! but hearing the negative qualities you imply about friendless people would've fucked me up bad as a depressed autistic middle schooler. or as a half-bedbound college dropout. why are we acting like this is progressive. why.

potentially shocking statement here, but having friends or not (and, among people who do, having specifically intense and devoted and physically intimate friendships or not) is a fucking morally neutral thing. and not having relationships like that does not inherently make a person say the amatonormative stuff that started this whole argument! i don't kiss my friends, but that doesn't mean i'm going on a crusade that kissing is always romantic and never platonic! is that too difficult for you to believe? and if you can believe that, can you also believe that not participating in other aspects of friendships doesn't inherently give you amatonormativity brainrot, either? it's literally just like this:

i'm not saying you can't ship aro characters at all ever under any circumstances whatsoever no matter what, i'm just saying it hurts so incredibly deeply that the ONLY aromantic character in the series made it into not one but TWO ships in the 2026 tumblr ship thingie when there are countless other romances to consider with allo characters from the same source. and i do in fact believe my anger at that fact is more than justified

the frustrating part about calling out fandom amatonormativity is ppl will push back saying things like "I'm just having fun!!" or "don't tell me to stop shipping 🙄" when that is literally not what we are saying. you can still ship without being amatonormative. we are not saying romance should be eliminated. y'all sound so ridiculous. when ppl call out heteronormativity it would be pretty ridiculous to say "omg don't tell me to stop shipping m/f!" no one is trying to ruin your fun. however if your "fun" happens to be bigoted then that's on you.

it just goes to show you that ppl are not interested in understanding what fandom amatonormativity even IS. they are so entrenched in it they cannot imagine a world without it. they don't want to imagine a world without it. bc they are so convinced romance is the only type of deep relationship.

NGL one thing that comes up in Mettaton fanworks that kind of makes me sad is this conceit that he should settle down, that he should stop touring and flirting and instead move into a house and start a family. That he needs to be "tamed" or else he'll never be happy.

It's just like... Mettaton gave up so much already to be a celebrity that lives loud. He also has something of a short attention span and likes pursuing excitement. And finally, he's a fucking robot, he's not going to die of old age (at least not on the kind of time frame a human would). Leaving the chaos of the stage behind, settling down with one partner with in a white picket fence house after a quiet little church marriage and having 2.5 kids with them would be pretty much on the bottom of his list of wants. And that's okay! Not everyone has to follow that life script! It doesn't mean that they're living life wrong, that they're irresponsible or secretly empty inside if they don't crave domesticity and stability.

If he's going to fall and stay in love, he deserves someone- or multiple someones!- that'll love and accept him for what he is, wildness and all, and not try to make something more "socially acceptable" by amatonormative human standards out of him.
