Fanfic resource/reference: sharing my notes on Swedish nicknames
I've had the privilege of being taught about Swedish nicknames by some knowledgeable Swedes on here, and I've also tried to research them on my own (e.g. this article in Språkvård has been a great resource). I've got a bunch of notes based on the info I've gathered - they are messy, but I figured I'd share them here for any other YR fic writers who find them useful (inspired by @dreamyelectronicmusic asking about nicknames yesterday)!
Some rules and examples:
- Virtually all Swedish nicknames are bisyllabic with emphasis on the first syllable to flow easily with the spoken language!
- Some very typical standard formats:
Girls’ nicknames most typically end in -a, -(a)n or -i:
Cecilia > Cilla or Cissi, Charlotta/e > Lotta or Lotti, Therese > Tessan, Louise > Lussan or Lojsan
The most typical format for guys' nicknames consists of the first syllable, a double consonant and -e:
Wilhelm > Wille, Simon > Simme, Mikael > Micke, Charles > Tjalle
Fredrik > Fredde or Freddy, Fredrika > Freddi; Freddie can be either but is often assumed female (cf. Maddie)
Alexander > Alex (pronounced a-lex or al-lex); Vincent > Vince is possible (pronounced vin-se)
- Not every name has an "established" or standard nickname
Particularly applicable to new and international names, as well as names that already have a feel and pattern similar to nicknames:
Sara, Rosh, Stella, Felice, Henry
Sometimes nicknames based on a more commonly Swedish variant of the name may be used (e.g. Felice and Henry could be something like Flisan and Hempa based on Felicia and Henrik, but this isn't standard)
- Nicknames can be built from the base name by various methods:
From the start:
Katarina > Kattis, Carolina > Carro, Ibrahim > Ibbe, Klas > Klabbe, Alexander > Alex, Beatrice > Bea
From the end: Karolina > Lina, Kristina > Tina or Stina
Doubling of first letter or syllable: Lennart > Lelle, Fredrika > Fifi
Doubling of middle consonant: Ingrid or Anna > Ninni, Kristina > Nina
- The form of the nickname is simple, preferably with only one (single or double) consonant sound between the vowels:
If the base name contains a consonant group, one of the consonants is removed:
Albert > Abbe, Margareta > Maggan, Viktor > Vicke, Marcus > Mackan
Strong consonants (p, t, k, b, d, g, s) are retained over weaker ones (r, l, m, n):
Nils > Nisse, exception: Walter > Walle
If the consonants are equally strong, the first one is retained:
Viktor > Vicke, Ulrika > Ulla, Mats > Matte
If the nickname does contain a consonant group, the first consonant is a nasal sound (n, m, ŋ):
Henrik > Henke or Henka (pronounced heŋke/a)
A consonant (often p) can be added after a nasal sound taken from the base name:
Tommy > Tompa, Bengt > Bempa, Henrik > Hempa
The whole consonant group is pronounced in the same part of the mouth and the second sound is always toneless (never b, d, g)
- The first syllable and other weighted syllables are particularly prominent in nicknames and can lead to different variants:
Birgitta > Bibbi, Biggan or Gittan; Margareta > Maggan, Greta or Meta; Elisabet > Lisa or Bettan; Kristina > Tina, Stina, Kina, Kicki, Nina, Tinni, Tinna…
- Nicknames can also be based on last names, anecdotes etc. instead of a given name, and they may act as class markers:
e.g. Jonny/Sonny/Ronny are working class nicknames
Obscure nicknames and unusual variants are upper class:
Smysan (not based on a given name); the real King Carl Gustaf was called Tjabo/Tjabbe in his youth; Queen Kristina would never be Kicki/Tina/Stina but e.g. Tinni/Tinna
Cf. Solsidan episode where Mickan tries to establish "Ybby" for Ebba
Some upper-class people still have normal nicknames (e.g. Wille)
- Many people have no nickname at all; some people may have several; others only have them in specific contexts:
some people introduce themselves by their nickname (Micke), others use their given name but also answer to a nickname among friends (Wille)
some women only use nicknames with their female friends
men may also address each other by their last names (remnant of military style)
people in a group may use nicknames based on last names to distinguish between two people with the same first name (but they don't necessarily use that nickname to address the person!)
- NB. some simple names and nicknames are easy to turn into "baby speak" or playground taunt versions (doubling with p or b):
Annapanna, Ollepolle, Walleballe, Soffiboffi etc.
Parents may be mindful of these when naming or nicknaming their child
--
- Added note on pronunciation: a written double consonant in Swedish denotes a doubly articulated sound:
E.g. Tina is pronounced with a long i and short n, Tinna with a short i and long n (English approximation: tee-na vs. tin-na, emphasis on the first syllable)
---
I realise these rules and examples may not be particularly easy to follow - they aren't for me either! But I figured they might be of interest anyway.
As always, additions and corrections are very, very welcome!
Hii, this ask is about the oral sex prompt list... im not really good at writing prompts but I was thinking

AHSHLSKSJS I love the third one especially! Also the first one is great for a mirrorverse fic.
Ga'hah is a small planet near the outer rim. Being tidal locked, the planet doesn't experience a day/night cycle, instead, it is divided into a light half and a dark half. A massive mountain range marks the equator line between these two extremes.
Ga'hah has three moons. The main moon, Horula, dwarves the other two which orbit around it. Time on Ga'hah is usually told by the positioning of the two smaller moons around Horula. The small blue moon is named Erolis, and the orange is called Carino. The moons markedly are not named according to usual Ga'haiian structure, suggesting the names' origin being more rooted in nature and elements rather than gods and legends.
The storm Meha’klei, is a different matter, drawing its name from a mother god that spat life of Ga'hah into existence in the form of rain. The system is a permanent storm spot hovering over the Eastern spread of the equator range. Though the storm itself is violent, its outer bands lend beauty to the landscapes carved from the violent downpour.
The Meha'klei of legend is wife to Be'llahl, the god who gave birth to culture and pleasure. He is the main deity of Ga'hah and the source of their self indulgent views and way of life. The creed is to do things simply because it brings you happiness in some way. You won't find a Ga’haiian praying to their deity to save them or to bless their crops, those are important matters you need for survival. That's not what the cult of Be'llahl is about. They'll pray that a meal is delicious, that a sexual encounter is satisfying, that they might get a day off to do absolutely nothing.
Though the cult preaches pleasure above all things, it's not without its limits. To take away another's pleasure on purpose is a cruelty. As with any belief, people will twist the virtues to suit themselves, but the rule of mutual benefit is generally believed and accepted. It is in fact heralded as the true challenge of the pleasure faith, to find the balance where everyone is enjoying themselves.
Polycules were the standard for Ga'haiian relationships, breaking into new clans with each generation instead of couples. However, over a thousand years of trade with other planets has shifted the culture slightly to a more conformed view of pairings. The practice of monogamy does not always blend well with Ga'haiian sensibilities.
The Ga'haiian people are stratified between the poor colonies of the Southern dark side and the elitist rich Northern city state of Sohn.
Sohn was built surrounding the Trimecca farms, giant, hollow pyramids that filter the harsh light from the sun to perfectly grow a dense variety of crops in the controlled environment. Though revolutionary, the farms block the stronger rays of sun from reaching the mountain valley’s, destroying the ecology over thousands of years. The resources created by the agricultural wonders give Sohn a monopoly over the flow of food and materials on Ga’hah.
Sohn has been influenced by the galaxy at large, adopting both Republic and Separatists ideas in order to appear more influential and accepted while still maintaining a sense of superiority.
Speaking of which, the Sohnese have a cast system not practiced in the general populace of Ga'hah based on blood purity. Pure blooded nobles will have blue markings under their eyes. Humans with partial Ga'haiian will be marked in red. Part Ga'haiian hybrids will be marked in Yellow.
Ga'haiians are a genetic variant of humans. The common visage of a Ga'haiin is dramatically tall, a female generally being 6' - 6'5" and males 6'5" -7'5", tanned, with pure white hair. Their pigmentation is adaptive as a result of the extreme light/dark nature of the environment. The olive tone will lighten to almost white after a few days with out direct sun, and darken to a rich golden tan in only a few hours of UV exposure. Each individual has an upper and lower limit to how light or dark their skin will get.
When a Ga'haiian has a child with someone with out the genome variant it causes a few genetic glitches. Part Ga'haiians will be shorter, with splotches of black in their hair. This hair color pattern is known as "Ga'haiian Calico" and is harshly judged in Sohn City.
Blue Sohnese will usually only bare children with other pure blooded Ga'haiians, though some child bearing marriages to outsiders have occured- usually for influence off planet. The resulting half-blooded noble children will either be marked red, to be a secondary partner to a blue, or as a yellow, strictly a servitude position in a blue household.
There has never been a Ga'haiian jedi, and force users are not common on the planet. The ways of the Jedi are antithetical to Ga'haiian culture, who believe that attachment is what makes life worth living and anything and everything is worth being attached to. A Ga'haiian's opinion of a Jedi will range from thinking them foolish to hostile superiority. A family approached by the Jedi counsel would be horrified by their proposal, seeing it as an offer to emotionally castrate their child. If a Jedi were to hail from the "Pleasure Planet," they would have to turn their back completely on the culture of their home world.
(I'm tagging again as I start posting older content that probably wasn't seen.)
SIDE NOTE: @vimse and I chatted a lot on the original posts and expanded on a few cultural details together, I will later compile a lot of those notes into a third addition with some other points to be made about the planet okay I love you.
I repurposed a google sheets template for fanfic writing wips. If you’d like to try it out for yourself you can follow this link, hit file, then copy and voilà you got it!
Here's a quick catalog of things that I thought might be useful for other fic writers!
Elly's drink is called a "Whisker Sour" (lol) and is a play on a Whiskey Sour (recipe here). It's served in a tumbler or Old Fashioned Glass with an argyle/hatch/diamond etched pattern. (hi-res photo above from Apple)
The Argylle book cover colors in the hardback set are:
Argylle I - yellow
Argylle II - red
Argylle III - blue
Argylle IV - purple (the one Elly reads from at the signing and that Aiden is reading on the train)
The first paragraph of the author's biography reads: "ELLY CONWAY is the author of the bestselling Argylle series of books, which have sold over 250 million copies worldwide, been published in more than 200 territories and been translated into 73 languages."
Penguin Random House does have a biography page for her, which simply reads: "Elly Conway was born and raised in upstate New York. She wrote her first novel about Agent Argylle while working as a waitress in a late-night diner." They did come out with an actual book of Argylle that can be purchased, and the dedication and author's notes are particularly interesting to see in light of the movie's plot.
Hope this was helpful, and since it's for fanfic, feel free to use or ignore at your discretion! Please let me know if there's anything else you'd like to see or know. Thanks!
I'm not sure if any fanfic writers or fanartists for Death Stranding are interested in that level of adherence to the game, but here are the presumably canon suit colors for Corpse Disposal Team, Bridges medics, Bridges security team, Bridges engineers, independent porters, MULEs, terrorists, Fragile Express porters, and uhh, not sure what's the last one (BB technicians?)
If you'd like specific info on what MULE color is worn in what area, lmk I can go check ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'm just chillin
I have compiled here a list of every single time Draco and Hermione interacted in canon, talked about one another, or could have conceivably interacted for all your Hogwarts-era fanfic needs!
If I left anything out, please don’t hesitate to comment or DM me! There are some really obvious ones I left out e.g. the fanfic classics: prefects’ bathroom, Astronomy Tower, Black Lake, Potions lesson...
I haven’t included page numbers because every edition is different and it would be confusing. This list is intended as pinpoint references for you to check out the scene in your own books, which is why they’re not super detailed.
Enjoy!
