Danganronpa: Anachronism - Day 20

- [Group Meeting] -
- [Stairwell, 11:30] -

[KENNY]: Alright, everyone--
[DAISY]: Let me take a guess. New floor?
[KENNY]: [sighs] You know it.
[XAVIER]: There’s only nine of us, though.
[KENNY]: Doesn’t look like an especially big floor.
[XAVIER]: But someone has to be alone.
[KENNY] But you can shut up about that. I’ll do it.
[JAIME]: Should you?
[...]
[KENNY gives him a withering look out of the corner of his eye. JAIME shrinks back.]
[JAIME]: Okay, okay, I get it.
[RYAN]: Jaime’s right, Kenny. I don’t know if you should be alone right now.
[KENNY]: Jesus fucking christ, you two--I told you to be normal about this.
[RYAN]: That’s not what I was talking--
[KENNY] I just--I need to be alone right now. Okay?
[...]
[JAIME]: Yeah… yeah, I guess. I’m just worried.
[KENNY]: Well, you don’t have to be.

- [Gymnasium] -
- [Gymnasium, 11:42] -
--
[EVAN opens a door emblazoned with a painted-on mural of a dog. His face lights up when he sees it.]
[EVAN]: Jaime! There’s a whole gym in here!
[JAIME]: Oh--that’s nice, I suppose…
[EVAN]: [sighs] Man, I’ll be making good use of this. You?
[...]
[JAIME]: Uh--n-no… sorry. I’m not really the sports type.
[EVAN]: I can tell.
[...]
[EVAN realizes what he just said.]
[EVAN]: W--wait! No! Not like that, sorry!
[JAIME]: It’s fine. If you really wanted to insult me…
[He goes quiet.]
[EVAN]: … what?
[JAIME]: Nothing, nothing.
--
- [Sewing Room] -
- [Sewing Room, 11:49] -
--
[RYAN and DAISY enter the sewing room. DAISY sees it before she does and runs up, laughing.]
[DAISY]: Ryan! Ryan, look at this!
[RYAN]: Wh--oh. Oh, that’s…
[She gestures towards the comically large mannequin, still laughing even though it’s not that funny. Well--RYAN supposes everyone has their ways of coping… even though that might be the creepiest thing he’s seen in a while.]
[DAISY]: Ryan, it’s like--as big as you are!
[RYAN]: That’s… ew.
[DAISY]: What? Scared of mannequins?
[RYAN]: More so just weirded out. Nobody needs a mannequin that big.
[DAISY]: I thought you’d like it. Y’know. Inclusivity and stuff.
[RYAN]: Yes, well, I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but this isn’t exactly the place where you want to see a giant mannequin.
[DAISY]: No, I love it.
[RYAN]: Well, Daisy, you’re you.
[DAISY]: [amused] Hey, what’s that meant to mean?
[...]
[DAISY]: I… think I can guess, actually.

- [Dance Studio] -
- [Dance Studio, 11:51] -
--
[ELLIE swings the doors open and enters the dance studio with a cartwheel.]
[MAIA]: You’re energetic.
[ELLIE]: We’re in a dance room!
[MAIA]: Okay, then…
[ELLIE]: Maia, didn’t you used to be a dancer?
[...]
[MAIA]: I used to be.
[ELLIE]: What kind of dancing did you do?
[MAIA]: I was a fire dancer.
[ELLIE]: Oooooooh! Cool! Did you like dancing?
[MAIA]: More than anything.
[ELLIE]: But the why’d you stop?
[...]
[MAIA]: I got busy.
[ELLIE]: But I’m busy!
[MAIA]: You don’t get it.
[ELLIE]: Did… someone make you stop?
[...]
[MAIA]: My mom.
[ELLIE]: Oh.
[MAIA]: She didn’t like that I was, quote, “playing around while I should be taking care of my siblings.”
[...]
[ELLIE]: That’s sad.
[MAIA]: No, it’s fine.
[ELLIE]: No, it’s really sad. You should get to dance.
[...]
[MAIA sighs.]
[MAIA]: God, they’ve probably burned the house down.
[ELLIE]: Oh, no.
--
- [Boiler Room] -
- [Boiler Room, 11:57] -
--
[The door to the empty boiler room creaks open. KENNY is standing in the doorway.]
[KENNY]: … Hello?
[His voice echoes. The walls and floor are coated in a thick layer of dust, as if it’s been closed up for years.]
[KENNY]: Woah.
[He turns on the light. The switch is worn. Dust bunnies float in the air. The electrical equipment rattles and hisses. He turns back and closes the door.]
[KENNY]: Jeez. [Seemingly channeling Charlotte] Guess we’re boarding that place up.
[He realizes what he’s said and shuts his mouth.]
[Suddenly, it is all too quiet.]
--
- [Calm Room] -
- [Calm Room, 12:02] -
--
[TW: Fox-typical psychological torment]
[FOX opens the door and reaches for the light switch. There isn’t one.]
[FOX]: U--uh… Xavier, come look at this.
[XAVIER]: What?
[He leans into the room. FOX shoves him in and closes the door.]
[XAVIER]: Hey! Fox!
[There is no doorknob on the inside.]
[XAVIER]: Fuck. Fuck, okay--Fox! Let me out!
[A giggle from the outside. FOX is clearly enjoying this far more than he is. XAVIER bangs on the door.]
[XAVIER]: Fox, this isn’t funny! Let me out!
[FOX seems to think this is very funny.]
[XAVIER]: Fox, come on, come on--you wouldn’t--just--c’mon…
[FOX]: You’re one to talk about being nice.
[...]
[Footsteps down the hall. RYAN sighs.]
[RYAN]: Fox, did you lock Xavier in that room?
[FOX]: … maybe.
[RYAN]: Let him out.
[FOX]: Nope.
[RYAN]: Fox, open the door.
[FOX]: Nope.
[RYAN simply pushes past her and opens the door himself. XAVIER runs out and bolts dow the hall.]
--
- [Rivalry] -
- [KATHLEEN’s room, 12:36] -
--
[XAVIER]: Hey, Kat--
[Silence. XAVIER remembers she is gone, and he pulls back from the door.]
[XAVIER]: … oh.
[...]
[XAVIER]: Man, it actually kinda sucks without you.
[...]
[XAVIER]: Am I losing my mind? Why am I talking to you like you can hear me? Why am I talking to you in the first place? I didn’t even like you!
[...]
[XAVIER]: Why am I so--so upset that you’re gone…?
[XAVIER starts crying.]
[XAVIER]: It’s so fucking stupid. I hated you when you’re alive and now I like you when you’re dead. That shouldn’t be a thing that happens. That shouldn’t be how this works, I need to make up my mind on you. I shouldn’t…
[...]
[XAVIER]: I shouldn’t miss you.
--
- [Haircut] -
- [ELLIE’s room, 12:50] -
--
[RYAN knocks on ELLIE’s door.]
[RYAN]: Ellie, kid, it’s time for lunch.
[...]
[RYAN]: Ellie?
[He knocks on the door again.]
[RYAN]: Ellie, come on out. It’s lunch.
[ELLIE]: I don’t want lunch. Don’t come in.
[ELLIE’s voice sounds much deeper than usual. Older. RYAN is taken aback.]
[RYAN]: Ellie, what is this? Are you feeling alright? Do you want Maia?
[ELLIE]: No. I just… wanna be alone.
[...]
[ELLIE starts crying.]
[RYAN]: Are you…
[ELLIE]: I don’t need you here and I don’t wanna talk about it.
[...]
[RYAN]: Is this about yesterday? I need to know what’s going on.
[ELLIE]: J--just go away…
[RYAN]: Ellie, you’re really worrying me. What’s happening?
[ELLIE sighs and opens the door. Her hair has been cut into an uneven bob, and she is holding a pair of craft scissors in her hand.]
[RYAN]: Oh, Ellie…
[ELLIE]: You’re mad.
[RYAN]: No. Come on, let me in. I’ll help you out.
[ELLIE]: I’m not gonna get roles anymore.
[RYAN]: No. I’m sure you will.
[He takes her hairbrush out of her vanity. ELLIE flinches.]
[RYAN]: Hey. I’m not gonna hurt you. Just sit down.
[She sits down. RYAN starts brushing her hair.]
[RYAN]: Hm. I never realized you dyed your hair.
[ELLIE]: My Dad says brown hair isn’t marketable. It makes me look too old.
[RYAN]: I don’t think so. You shouldn’t have to do things just because it makes you look… marketable--or whatever your dad thinks.
[...]
[ELLIE]: Okay, be honest. Does it look good?
[RYAN]: I think it’s a nice look for you. Very grown-up.
[ELLIE smiles.]
[ELLIE]: That’s what I was going for.
[RYAN]: Now. [He wipes her cheek.] Dry those tears, kid. Let’s go get something to eat.
--
- [Toxic] -
- [Dining hall, 13:01] -
--
[TW: Discussion of bullying, depiction of disordered eating.]
[XAVIER sits down next to RYAN.]
[XAVIER]: Hey.
[...]
[RYAN]: Hey.
[XAVIER]: How’s life?
[RYAN]: Fine.
[...]
[XAVIER]: Wanna try that again without lying?
[RYAN]: Well, you know. It’s just hard, you know, with so many people gone.
[XAVIER]: Yeah.
[...]
[XAVIER]: I miss them too.
[RYAN]: You do?
[XAVIER]: Of course I do.
[...]
[Uncomfortable silence. XAVIER takes a frankly pitiful bite of his similarly pitiful sandwich, like it makes him physically sick to look at too long, but it’s a bite nonetheless. RYAN doesn’t even touch his own.]
[...]
[XAVIER]: I don’t like that I’m like this either, Ryan. I swear I’m trying to fix things.
[RYAN]: Are you? Because yesterday didn’t look like fixing things.
[XAVIER]: I swear to god--Ryan, I didn’t mean for anyone to die.
[RYAN]: Well, it doesn’t really matter if you meant for them to die or not, what you did was still mean.
[...]
[XAVIER]: What do I do now, Ryan?
[RYAN]: Apologise.
[XAVIER]: No, I mean--when we get home. What am I gonna do?
[RYAN]: Well…
[...]
[RYAN]: When we get home, I’ll be your friend.
[XAVIER]: But we’ll never see each other again.
[RYAN]: It doesn’t matter. We can talk on the phone, even if it’s two in the morning. Just, whenever you want to hear my voice. If you’re ever in LaSalle County, you can stop by my place. And, maybe, one day, I can come down to Tallahassee. I’ll always be with you, and I’ll never hurt you. Okay?
[...]
[XAVIER]: Do you promise?
[RYAN]: I promise.
--
- [Apology] -
- [Incinerator, 13:56] -
--
[KENNY knocks on the incinerator room door.]
[KENNY]: Jaime? Are you in here?
[JAIME]: U-um… yeah.
[KENNY]: Can I come in?
[JAIME]: Sure.
[He opens the door.]
[KENNY]: I just wanna tell you I’m sorry. For being a jackass.
[...]
[JAIME]: Oh.
[KENNY]: Because I am. I’m really sorry. I know I hurt you. I was pissed off ‘cause, in all honesty, I was scared people would think less of me if they found out.
[JAIME]: About your condition?
[KENNY]: About everything, frankly. But I shouldn’t have lost my shit like that. I care about you, Jaime. I really do. So, I’m sorry.
[...]
[KENNY]: For being a jackass.
[...]
[JAIME]: For what it’s worth, I forgive you.
[...]
[KENNY]: Jaime, you don’t have to--
[JAIME]: No. Not because I have no. Because I want to. Because I care about you, too, and I don’t want to lose you.
[...]
[KENNY]: Oh.
[...]
[KENNY]: I wouldn’t want to lose you either.

- [Kitchen, 17:03] -

[TW: Discussion of parentification and child abuse]
[ELLIE]: Hi, Maia.
[MAIA]: El--
[MAIA does a double take.]
[MAIA]: What happened to your hair?
[ELLIE]: What do you mean?
[MAIA]: Where’s the rest of it?
[ELLIE frowns.]
[ELLIE]: So you hate it.
[MAIA]: First of all, no I don’t. Second of all, how did you manage that?!
[ELLIE]: Ryan did it for me!
[MAIA]: Oh. That makes more sense. Now, what’s with it?
[ELLIE]: I wanted to look more mature.
[MAIA]: [laughs] Trust me, kiddo, you don’t.
[ELLIE]: But why?
[...]
[MAIA]: Because, when you look mature, people think you are mature. Then they start trusting you with big things. [Sighs] Too big. And, before you know it, you’re not even your own person anymore. You’re just all the things you can do for others.
[ELLIE]: Is that what happened to you?
[...]
[MAIA]: Yeah. Yeah, it is.
--
- [House of Cards] -
- [CHARLOTTE’s room, 19:43] -
--
[EVAN]: Hey, Charlotte.
[...]
[EVAN]: Thank god you missed that trial. It was a shitshow. Nadia’s dead. Maggie’s dead. And Kat’s dead.
[...]
[EVAN]: So… I hope you guys are all having fun together. Wherever you are. We’re all going bananas without you. Xavier’s getting even worse, somehow. Maia and Ellie are… actually, they’re okay. Ryan, I think he started seeing dead people. Kenny’s losing it. And Jaime’s losing it ‘cause Kenny’s losing it.
[...]
[EVAN]: I--I just… I feel so lonely all the time. Kenny has Jaime. Maia and Ellie have each other. Ryan, Xavier, and Daisy have each other. I had you, and Nadia, and Maggie, and Kat--and they all just died.
[...]
[EVAN]: What now?
