Got my BA in English Language and Literature with a minor in French

Preparing for an MA in Teaching English as a Foreign Language and self-studying and researching theoretical+applied+interdisciplinary linguistics

Arabic (native - standard and a dialect of the gulf)

Farsi (native but I don't speak the standard)

How I learn languages

tv shows mostly as I rely a lot on pronunciation and sentence structures in speech

music - I mostly listen to English, Persian, Korean, Japanese and French songs but I am open to anything as long as it's good

used to take classes before covid and then I enrolled in online classes and hated them - they were bland.

Oops. I've started a new language. I've been trying to learn the Arabic abjad, but it looks like Farsi might be easier to pronounce.

The three easiest words from this first session are:

nān - 🍞 - نان

panir - 🧀 - پنیر

sup - 🥣 - سوپ

نان ۰ پنیر ۰ سوپ

Drops doesn't seem to teach the abjad, like it teaches the kana for Japanese, which is a pity.

favorite language: বাংলা Bengali

favorite name (human): লাবণ্য (luh-bon-no) female name, means “glow”

favorite name (other animals): ঘুঘু (ghu-ghu) name of the bird “dove”

favorite vocabulary word: প্রাণোচ্ছল (pra-no-ch-chol) an adjective used to describe someone/something full of positive energy and life

favorite onomatopoeia: রিনিঝিনি (rini-jhini) the sound of glass bangles

favorite idiom: পটোল তোলা (potol-tola) okay so this is a little complicated. the literal meaning of this idiom is “picking up potol” পটোল= a popular South Asian cucumber like vegetable and, তোলা= pick up. but in this idiom, পটোল তোলা means “dying”. this phrase is used when speaking of death in a comical way. this should never ever be used in a serious conversation about death.

favorite quote/phrase: “অন্যায় যে করে আর অন্যায় যে সহে, তব ঘৃণা যেনো তারে তৃণ সমদহে |” this is a popular Bengali saying. It means your hatred should go towards both the person who acted unfairly (like committed a crime) and the person who tolerated the unfair act of others.
