Stumbled upon this short film by Federico Heller yesterday. Worth watching if you are interested in sci-fi, or drones, or bio-mimicry, or are just curious to see the nightmarish future ‘Uncanny Valley’ displays. I don’t think the term necessarily applies here in the most literal sense, but it is really close to reality if you’re a drone pilot and I guess it could make you nauseous... so why not. It’s a well made, sort of super short episode of Black Mirror with an obvious but real nice twist. This morning I got an invite from Oculus to pre-order their first consumer model and it comes with a free copy of Eve: Valkyrie, a first person galactic shooter, and while watching the trailer I imagined experiencing that bombardement of images, colors and sounds in VR. It’s like the travel agency in Total Recall at home. I should stop my Netflix account while I still can...
UNCANNY VALLEY
You hear the phrase “your mind will blown away” thrown around pretty often when describing a movie. It actually rings true here, with Uncanny Valley. Hands down, one of the best shorts…films of 2015. You’re looking at a Sci-Fi story jumping ahead to the future, where man is getting swallowed whole by technology. Pushing past that, Federico Heller cleverly layers the film with social themes of addiction, reality and warfare. On top of that, it’s a beautiful film. A cinematic rollercoaster for the eyes! Independence Day: Resurgence writer, Carter Blanchard is developing a feature version of the short as well.
