Felix Speller | on Tumblr (b.1993, UK) - Peripherals
Born in London to a furniture design Mother and a portrait photographer Father, Felix Speller has acquired a Photography Diploma at Brighton City College and is now studying Fine Art Photography BA at Arts University Bournemouth. Though Speller works professionally as a music and portrait photographer, he focuses on fine art photography and film for his personal work. Speller’s work tends to be voyeuristic, he look for hidden beauty that we tend to overlook in our peripheral vision. The project entitled “Peripheral” documents what he feels is overlooked beauty, whether it be forms, colours or smaller details. The work consists of a book of photographs, as well as a trio of videos. Speller use a 35mm full frame digital camera exclusively with a 50mm f1.4 lens. This combination allows him to capture as much light as possible, while still remaining portable and easy to carry. Along side this, the 50mm focal length allows him to replicate the human eye as it is the camera lens equivalent focal length. Speller has been short listed in the NME photography awards 2012 and the association of colleges (AOC). His work has been featured in Dummy magazine, VICE (THUMP) as well as SQ magazine and XLR8R.
