From manang to a hot mamang, say hi to the modern wifee.
When i was a kid, I was made to believe that marrying young would disrupt me from having a bright future. That i wont be able to finish school or land a decent job and stuffs like that. In short, marriage is a threat to my ambitions which definitely excludes 'being a wifee'. But today looking at how happy and successful my married friends are, i realized that there are major changes in the stereotype of a misis and while everyone was discouraging me to rush into marriage before, today they are the same people pressuring me to do so. Gone indeed are the days when misis is wearing a daster with her hair pinned forming a bun above her head in a mess cleaning the kitchen sink. Or always in the banyo washing the clothes or always busy and in misery maintaining cleanliness and order inside the house like a madwoman. Or she is one of the osyosera and chismosa in the local sari-sari store where she expresses her rants and miseries of being a housewife to her kapwa misis. But nowadays, the misis is no longer portrayed as busyrable wife for the modern misis is no longer clad in a loose and shabby daster or apron, she is now dressed in the most trendy and fashionable wardrobes and most of the time better looking than her single amigas. And the traditional Maria's basket has been replaced by ElV, Gucci, Chanel, MK, or (Hermes???!!) containing credit cards, car keys, mini gadgets, lippy and compact. Take She for example, one of my amiga who has been married for almost four years now but still maintains her glamour and always caught wearing chic and fabulous wardrobe and her lifestyle includes traveling, shopping and providing the best home for her responsible hubbee. A chic housewife that's She and there are lots of other wives as fabulous and responsible as she. The traditional misis is most probably our mums but not in my generation. What I noticed is most of my married friends if not all are hot mommas or chic wife and the desperate housewife no longer exists. Thanks to social networking sites which proves my theory that the desperate housewife now has a more colorful and fun life than Ally Mcbeal and Carrie Bradshaw. Sorry, girls. And while Carrie Bradshaw sits on her bed in front of her mini laptop writing bout her sexcapaces, fashion finds, parties, and her fabulous girlfriends, the modern wife is now 24/7 online conquering the realm of world wide web while sitting on her throne at home utilizing social networking sites as an escape to her real world instead of hanging out in the sari-sari store with other housewives. I even doubt that modern misis knows Aling Nena's store for she usually do a weekly grocery shopping in the mall during weekend after spending hours beautifying herself in a salon or a few hours in a coffee shop sipping cappuccino with Hubbee or girlfriends with an iPhone on the other hand busy photograming or tweeting about her 'errands'. Way back, women are often victims of domestic violence and she would keep silent about it but with Twitters, FB, Path and the like, are there still silence among women? Are they still deprive of speaking for themselves? Na-ah! They even have nothing to rant about but they always have something to showcase to the world. Like how thoughtful Hubbee is for surprising her to dinner with expensive presents or how good looking her kids are, what her latest fashion finds are, her new shades of lippy, new restos she dined in with her family or a new house, or a vacation. Whew! I really admit that I am very happy with how the misis have transformed herself from a manang to a hot mamang without neglecting her role of being a mother and a wife. I salute you girls for knowing your worth. Carrying an expensive purse or hanging out at a coffeshop with your amigas is not the same as laundering money in mahjong. You can have the best of both worlds if you wish to. It's just a matter of balancing things, multitask is the trend. You can be a wife and a mother and at the same time a student or an employee and still have a social life. Believe me, everything is possible as lived and proven by most misis I know. Ladies, misis, please raise your ring finger for the world to see the modern and empowered you. You are an inspiration to single ladies like me. Click. It's now on Instagram. ;)
