Recently presented a critical paper on this outstanding text, "The Palace of Illusions" by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni. The male-author of the Indian epic, Mahabharata was too partial or may be ashamed to reveal the power-hungry attitude of men to achieve their valour and dignity, causing ruins to civilization for their own benfit, so a woman had to be victimised for being the supposed cause of war of Kurukshetra. Divakaruni tries to bring justice for this woman, Draupadi, who was blamed for men's own exploits. However Divakaruni chose Draupadi, in the name of Panchali to retell the epic from a feminist perspective, in which the shadowy figures would deconstruct the older patriarchal versions and reconstruct an identity for themselves. Very happy to get a chance on doing a presentation on this book. Divakaruni brings out Panchali's hidden love for another man, out of marriage, whom she could met after her death. Written in a very critical, subtle and obscenity-proof language she creates an illusory effect to mesmerize readers and visit throughout the Palace of Illusions. #chitrabanerjeedivakaruni #palaceofillusions #feministreading #epic #incredibleread
