Alternative/atmospheric rock band from Columbus, OH, Fever Fever released their album Aftermath last week (September 16 to be exact). They reached #40 on the iTunes alternative charts. The strong, catchy, and unique album will be sure to bring them the attention they deserve. We got the chance to ask them a few questions about the album.
Fever Fever: We’ve learned that relationships are what give meaning to what we do. And nothing is worth destroying those relationships. So yea we are going to get in arguments over what should be in a song and what shouldn’t, or where you want to stop on tour, but in the end we just remember that we are brothers first. It’s not an option to not be brothers, so your only move is to figure everything out together even if it gets a little rough.
You use such unique instruments compared to most alternative rockers. What inspired having instruments like a bamboo flute in your music?
Fever Fever: We’ve always been interested in other cultures. We listen to soundtracks and watch movies that have that ethnic influence also. I think I’ve seen movies like Indiana Jones 1,000 times. At one point, every member of our band considered going into some sort of third-world humanitarian aid as a career. We are all still interested in that in some way. But I think our fascination and heart for other cultures inspired our instrumentation style. We used to write flute parts and other instruments with a midi keyboard until one day we just decided synth wouldn’t cut it and we learned how to actually play the instruments you hear on a lot of our stuff.
Now, let’s get into some details about the new album Aftermath, which will be released in just a few days. What/who were the main influences and inspirations of the album?
Fever Fever: About half of the album was written during a time where family members were being lost and going through illness. But this led to a lot of really good conversations and thoughts about life that inspired songs like Line in the Sand, Hope is a Childs Toy and Collapse. Then there was this online journal that a friend was writing at the same time we were writing the second half of Aftermath. I connected with it so intimately that I would talk with my friend late into the night about times we’ve been broken and built back up and the whole process that happens in between. Since half of the album was written in despair and struggle and the other half in encouragement, it really reflects this larger circular process that we all go through of being broken, refined, broken again, and then refined even more.
If Aftermath were a person, what would they be like?
Fever Fever: They would be old and full of wisdom. Like an old man that finally found happiness after a lifetime of falling in love and heartbreak.
What do you want your fans to take away from Aftermath?
Fever Fever: We want them to feel refreshed, encouraged and understood. Everyone goes through the struggles that Aftermath is about. We want them to know they aren’t alone and that there is a purpose for everything they are going through.
What are your favorite tracks from the album?
Fever Fever: We all have different favorite tracks but I think we all have Aftermath, Sea Meets Earth or Hypnotized in our top few.
How do you think the album reflects the band?
Fever Fever: Aftermath shows how diverse we are in musical taste. You can find strong guitar riffs, indie chants, orchestral string sections, ethnic drum patterns, etc. We each put our heart into the record. Hopefully that kept it fresh and unique.
Now, you had a music video shoot recently. Is there anything that you’d like to share, such as which song it is for and when it will be released?
Fever Fever: The release date hasn’t been confirmed yet but it should be within the next few weeks. The video will be for Hypnotized, which is the 3rd track on the album. It will be a really fun video to watch. Especially for all the ladies out there who know they have their man wrapped around their finger.
And to conclude, is there anything that you would like to share with U&U?
Fever Fever: We have a lot of big plans in the future. So stay in touch on social media to see what we are up to! The easiest way is at www.feverfeverband.com.
