ECHOES IN OUR BLOOD WAS UPDATED
After 30 chapters and almost 255k words, the slow-burn has finally slow-burned. The Feydice love confession blossoms with all pretty little callback details after 10 years of chasing in the shadows of shared dreams.
“I protect what is mine.” “Do you believe me to be yours?” “You are mine,” Feyd-Rautha says, one hand straying from her hair to cup her stomach. “Would you kill for me?” Eurydice asks. “You need only ask.” “Would you love me as I am?” Feyd-Rautha inhales. “I want your mind, your soul, your very essence. All of you,” he says. “Could you give it to me?” “I already have.” — Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen & Eurydice Atreides, Chapter 30, “Echoes in Our Blood” by Vulpine_Spectacle on AO3.
Guess who just updated ECHOES IN OUR BLOOD
ECHOES IN OUR BLOOD FUN FACTS!
If Eurydice had been born alone without Paul, these things would have happened:
The Emperor wouldn't have bothered killing Leto. Without an heir to sustain him, Leto's bloodline would die with him. Unless Leto chose to marry, the Emperor would have left well enough alone.
Eurydice would have been taken to the Convent at the age of seven, like in EIOB, but she would have fought harder to stay. Since Leto didn't have an heir, Eurydice felt like she had to fill that role as his only child.
LETO WOULD HAVE THREATENED WAR ON THE BENE GESSERIT IF THEY TOOK EURYDICE.
Leto would eventually be forced to yield, but this would add pressure to Leto to find a wife and have an heir to take on Caladan, but the Order would intervene at every turn.
Eurydice and Feyd's marriage would have bridged the feud between families. Without a male heir at Leto's disposal, the Baron prefers to keep him alive, solely so Leto can watch Eurydice lose her Atreides identity by bearing Harkonnen children and furthering the legacy.
Eurydice would have 10000% murdered the Baron no matter what.
... Feyd figures out where Eurydice is sooner, since she doesn't have Paul's mind to connect with, meaning he casually stages a mini-coup against the Baron to gather up enough resources to invade Chapterhouse to get her.
Isolde is very tempted just to hand Eurydice over. But she has to solve a conflict, unfortunately.
Feyd is twelve at this point AND NOT LEAVING WITHOUT EURYDICE.
The Reverend Mother allows them to meet.
Feyd tries to kiss her because he's overwhelmed and Eurydice slaps him and calls him out for tracking her down and basically bringing a whole ass army. This is when it's explained how they're actually betrothed and Feyd, being the genius he is, states it'd make more sense for him to pack her up and bring her back to Giedi Prime so they can get to know each other, she can finish her training there, and then they can get married.
Isolde supports this plan.
The Reverend Mother yields to it, figuring this might be a good way to tame Eurydice.
... it does not.
Eurydice and Feyd's relationship growing up together on Giedi Prime can be summed up as a "this is my idea" song from swan princess
it's cute okay, definitely a lil less angst than echoes in our blood
Maybe, just maybe, i'll write a fanfiction of my fanfiction with this story. it'd probably be short and domestic af. Probably ten chapters at maximum, depending on where it goes.
... thoughts? A fanfiction of EIOB once EIOB is completed? X'DD

what do u think ur ocs would work as in a modern world?
Ahhhh, I love modern au questions. I actually think about my characters in modern world quite a bit. Whenever I get writer's block, I like to imagine my babes in different realities for fun.
To answer your question, here's what I think:
Eurydice is an heiress. 100000%. I go back and forth between Leto being a duke in the modern universe and being wealthy and important through politics, or if he's just a super duper rich businessman. In any case, Eurydice doesn't ride solely off of her wealth, but it's a fact she definitely owns. I imagine Eurydice's biggest work are running fundraisers, organizing charities, handling auctions, and silly galas. Eurydice does good work through her family, but she also is a serious blackmailer. She has dirt on everyone. She won't hesitate to bring rich ass men to their knees and ruin their lives. NO HESITATION. She's out here trying to take out the shitty billionaires of the world. My queen. Unrelated, but Eurydice also spoils Feyd. She's his sugar mama and he's her scary dog privilege.
Aurelia is interesting to think about. Similarly, I think in the modern world she'd have been brought up in a rich and politically savvy family, but she wouldn't be involved in politics herself. In gotrs, Aurelia has a lot of passion towards helping people - especially children - so I think she'd either work as a pediatric nurse or a social worker. Both careers come with their own scopes of headaches and hardships, but I imagine she'd be up for the challenge. Ultimately, she wants to make the world better by helping people, especially women and children. I also imagine that Aurelia uses her family's wealth and resources to help build / supply hospitals and build shelters. Aurelia drags Acacius with her because he's her grumpy old general.
Ceres in a modern world I think would have been a would-be Olympic athlete. In the modern world, I think she would have worked to become either an Olympic surfer or swimmer, since I imagine that her family had a similar background. Marcel, Orfeo, and Scilla all had strong ties to sports and being in the public eye. Marcel was the overbearing manager type who never quite made it, while Orfeo backed out due to hating spotlight, and Scilla, after losing her leg, chose to work towards helping people. Ceres loses her arm in the modern au while out surfing with Liber. They were alone when a saltwater crocodile came up and tore her arm off, so Liber had to save her and get her to the hospital. After, Ceres still trained and did become an Olympic athlete. She has an online presence where she shares her workouts, mental health, and physical therapy to the public as a means of healing. She also films cringy TikTok trends with Finnick.

OMG!! These are all so good!! I've read FromTheBoundlessSea's work before and I LOVE them so much!! Now I gotta go back and re-read their fics because it's been a while. I'm adding the rest of these to my list. >:33

That is an excellent question. I hesitate to answer because of spoiler reasons, but I think it's harmless to share a couple of things.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. If Feyd knew where Eurydice was before they physically met, he would've 1000% overthrown the Baron and taken his whole army to Chapterhouse to retrieve her. Reverend Mother probably would've let it happen, too, to quicken the process. Eurydice definitely would be like, "WTF???" and then Feyd would be, ":DDDD". It's one of my fav headcanons because it's so chaotic imagining small tween Feyd just showing up on the Bene Gesserit homeworld like, "GIVE ME MY WIFE!"
Feyd likes watching Eurydice bathe. It isn't always a sexual thing (...mostly), but he enjoys the way her black hair shines when it's wet, and how pretty her fair skin is when it's coated in water droplets. He finds her mythical to look at.
Eurydice loves Feyd's hands. She likes how large they are compared to her own, but mostly she likes tracing the veins on the back of his hand, how they flex, and how they feel against her mouth when she kisses his palm.
Feyd wants Hektor to look like Eurydice. He doesn't want the baby to have his eyes or appearance. To him, Eurydice is the peak of beauty, and he wants their son to embody that.
As for the twin sister Eurydice forced on Hektor, Feyd also secretly hopes she'll look like Eurydice, too. But he's terrified the twins will become like Eurydice and Paul, because Feyd is insecure, and he feels that Eurydice loves Paul more than she loves him. He fears a replication of that bond with their twins.
Interestingly, Feyd and Delphine are both attracted to Eurydice and Paul. Obviously, Feydice and Paulphine are as they are, but there's a reluctant underlying attraction to the twin counterparts. They're quite literally the same soul and person, so it's almost a gravitional pull to be attracted to *both.* That being said, it might be mentioned, but it won't become an actual ship if that makes sense. Just a side effect. Plus, Eurydice and Paul are both hot, let's be real.
Eurydice is desperately in love with Feyd despite the knowledge that she now has about their connection. It's a hurtle they're going to have to cross, but Feyd is someone she can't lose no matter what. She'd burn down the whole Imperium for him.

Thank you so much, my lovely!! <3 <3 <3
“Let me go,” Eurydice says. “Never.” Feyd-Rautha squeezes her tighter. “You are mine.” “Leave me to my pain.” “Let me be a vessel to your pain,” Feyd-Rautha says. “Give it to me.”
— Eurydice Atreides & Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, Chapter 30, “Echoes in Our Blood” by @vulpine-spectacle on AO3
My god, “Let me be a vessel to your pain” is such a tagline in the fashion of Feyd. “He yearns to be hurt” in a canon way?
“Not any more complicated than you, velliväri. The difference between you and I is quite plain. I know who I am. I do not deny my violent heart.”
— Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, Chapter 28, “Echoes in Our Blood” by @vulpine-spectacle on AO3
This is one of my favorite lines in Chapter 28, in which Feyd and Eurydice engage in deep conversations to better understand themselves. What’s more? Those take place in a bath tub of black water — tell me you’re at Giedi Prime without telling me you’re at Giedi Prime haha.
Feyd earlier has seen in their shared dreams that Eurydice has a violent heart. Eurydice has now seen it in full and wholly acknowledged this fact. To protect her family and dismantle the Bene Gesserit schemes, we will need more than one violent heart ;)

May your blood oath uphold and prevail.
Our lovely Feyd makes a bold statement to the Emperor and the Giedi Prime council as a wife man and the new Baron. He is indeed a different Harkonnen. But Feyd, make no mistake with your vallevari. You may be at risk of losing her closer than ever before.
Dark secrets reside between them, with new truths enveloping them in warmth. He cannot yet tell her of what he knows, at risk of losing her. My uncle would destroy your House and name you prisoner… but I will name you Empress, Feyd-Rautha thinks, and uphold my oath to protect your family. — Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, Chapter 31, “Echoes in Our Blood” by Vulpine_Spectacle on AO3.
