helloooooooo to one of my favorite fics on 2024-2025 written by one of my favorite authors, the incredible the wonderful the magnificent the darling @powerful-owl !!! i would follow her over the edge of a cliff after her incredible maxiel work, and apparently that cliff is carcar fic.

so, when the Renegade Loves Fic (Writers) fest came around for Fanfic Writer Appreciation Day, i knew immediately i had to bind Em A Fic.

this fic is unmatched freak4freak energy, and is the sole reason i now ship carcar. the way em writes each driver's individual voice is UNPARALLELED: oscar is such a hilarious wry dry insecure narrator, and carlos is a bombastic fucked-up also hilarious foil for him. em's descriptions, the dark humor, the way it all ties together, it's just the WHOLE FUCKING PACKAGE, and i am so so so honored to have gotten to bind Em a copy of this <3

i normally talk about design inspiration here, but honestly this fic just fell into my lap with em's insane visuals and motifs throughout, especially my lil babe the ominous and evil Las Vegas Sphere. i was also extremely inspired by @phoenixortheflame's incredible bind of Far from the Tree with her glitchy sci-fi vibe.

Fan-fiction Writer’s Appreciation Day 2025

This year, for @renegadeguild's ffwad event, I bound New Wave by @yellowocaballero. This is probably one of my favorite binds I've done so far, it just came together so nicely.

The theme of the bind: PURPLE! The cover is done with leftover purple book-cloth from a previous bind, with the title written using a foil quill and, because the fic is all about Steph, my favorite comic panel of her as Spoiler. I sewed the end-bands myself, and the end-papers are a gorgeous double marbled paper by Jemma Lewis. And the star of the whole bind is, of-course, the beautiful shortgrain A4 paper that was a complete pain to get but allows the pages to sit open neatly!

This ffwad I also collaborated with Awl In One Press to typeset their bind of Stay out of Trouble by the same author. The typesets for both New Wave and Stay out of Trouble have been submitted to the Renegade Guild community typeset database, should you want to bind a personal copy.

It's Fanfiction Writers Appreciation Day!

@renegadeguild runs an event every year called Renegade Loves Fic(Writers) to appreciate our fan writers by gifting them with binds of their work, and I took this day as an opportunity to finish a long-since promised author's copy of Hold the Line by @dontbefanci . This fantastic Glee fic where they are in marching band instead of show choir is free to read on Ao3.

Here's the book with its twin that lives on my bookshelf. I'm still so in love with the way this cover design turned out. Not bad for my first attempt with Affinity Designer! I love making author copies, thank you Fanci for letting me send you this one!

Bound: Mr Blue Sky by @doingthechachaslide

Today is Fanfiction Writer Appreciation Day (FFWAD) and so I bound this deliciously fun fic for the author for Renegade Loves Fic(Writers) 2025 hosted by @renegadeguild.

If you know this song, it is right now stuck in your head and will be for the next 24-48 hours. I'd say I'm sorry but it's such a great song, I just don't feel like I have anything to be sorry about. (I mean, honestly, watch the 70s-tastic video, it is guaranteed to make you smile.)

I suppose the theme for the bind is kind of obvious and you know me, when I lean into a theme, I lean into it hard, and this time was no exception.

We've got blue skies on chapter pages and on the dust jacket, we have clouds and rainbows everywhere and a sunny yellow cover with the spine title painted on to look cloudy with cloud colored hand sewn endbands!

I hope the author likes it as much as I liked the fic!

FFWAD 2025

I took part in @renegadeguild's FanFic Writers Appreciation Day this year by binding the copy of the story that brought us together. They Say I Killed You (Haunt Me Then) by @foxinthegodswood (otherwise known as Haunt Me) was my introduction into the wonderful creative mind of someone I call my dearest friend. It's been a wild few years since we started on this journey, and I am forever honored at the trust you placed in me as your beta reader.

Wylla Karstark is content with her life in the far reaches of the North, happy to be so far from the brewing war that threatens to tear apart the country. She has everything she ever thought she needed - her brothers, her mother, the land she loves. Then Aemond Targaryen tumbles from the sky, abandoned by his dragon and left at her mercy, pressing at her every nerve and opening her eyes to the possibility of life beyond Karhold. But what happens when the tables turn and it's Wylla who finds herself under the thumb of the One-Eyed Prince and thrust into a war she has little hope of surviving? Can a fox endure the attention of a dragon?

I typeset the story in InDesign and broke out the Hollanders Imitation Leather that worked miles better than the stuff from Dollar Tree. I also took a stab at printing the cover art this time. Anyone have good recommendations as to a good printable HTV? I used T-shirt transfer, so the cover has a little bit of a fuzzy edge, and unfortuntaly not all the color came through as I like. Also, I think I have given up on metallic HTV after the spine titling sent me in tears.

The endpapers were printed by me, grabbing art of Aemond and Vhagar from what I found online. This was also my first time sanding a text block! After struggling with even cuts on my guillotine, I just went with this method. It obviously took a lot longer but was far less stressful (though my hands vibrated for a good hour afterwards)

Thank you so much for everything, Alex. I hope you love this. One day, I'll actually be able to make it a real leather bound book <3
