mini journal for a rainy november day

it’s gorgeous, chilly, slightly-rainy day where i’m at today.

drank a vat of iced coffee to start the day (as always). got some incense burning in the kitchen. gonna play a little stardew valley with my boyfriend. gonna write after that.

i have been feeling some mental resistance to switching back to actual ‘drafting’ (my writer’s stage fright, as i call it), but it’s getting better as i work with chap. 2 more and feel more familiar its skelly. writing 1 or 2 sentences of prose (whenever i feel like it during the code outline process) is very different to no longer focusing on the code at all and instead working on the prose.

today, my plan is to ‘switch’ from ‘skelly brain’ to ‘draft brain’ entirely. just gonna take the plunge, fuck it. needs to happen sometime!

Where the Wild Things Are

I know Where the wild things are. I found them When I was in the woods. Their claws Were in the treetops. Their teeth Hiding in the rocks. Their eyes Peeking through sunlit branches. And their roars Disguised as the furious whistle Of the wind.

The wild things Were so happy to have company That they followed me Down the country road Onto the highway A left then a right, All the way home.

But wild things Are too big Too loud Too fierce For inside. The walls cling Like plastic wrap Tightening on them With each breath.

And the Loneliness Of linoleum When the wild wants stone— Of faucets When the wild wants rivers— Of light bulbs When the wild wants sun— Is too much.

The wild rumpus begins.

They gnash their teeth Chomping on my spine. They roll their eyes Like pool balls against my ribs. And they scrape their claws Against the chalkboard Beneath my skin.

Until we finally ROAR.

And lest they eat me up, I turn left and then right, Back onto the highway And down a country road, Into the woods And all the way Home.

Perfect morning in my personal paradise.

I wish I had a "before" picture for you but I NEVER think of that until I'm done. Anyway, G and I bought an 80+ year old home in March 2016. This is the "closet" in the master bedroom. It's 2'8"x6'. So, it's a small ass space with a beautiful stained glass window in it. We assume it was made into a closet as an after thought because to qualify as a "bedroom" there has to be a closet. It's essentially just the space above the stairs. Anyway, when we moved in we bought beautiful 8' sliding door wardrobes from IKEA for our clothing and planned to use the "closet" as a meditation space/reading nook/alter room. Well, we've lived there nearly a year and I just worked on this space this week. Before, everything that you see that is white was very dark brown. Almost a mud color. Everything you see that is teal was the color of cardboard. It was awful. G is going to build me a bench with a section that folds out to make it a meditation platform! It's perfect. I really needed a place that was filled with this kind of energy in our home!
