A big update

Hey! It's been a while since I've updated here, and honestly this whole thing was in need of a major overhaul. I've completely rewritten findtags and am ready for it to be tested! It has basically everything the previous React version had and some new features.

For now, the old react version is still available at the old url, but you can try out the update here!

Returning (that was previously missing in the old version): 1. Searching by timestamps 2. Page navigation

Return to your most recent search (and the timestamp that you were on)

Search by date

NPF and legacy post support

There are still a few features that I need to finish implementing, but the basic search results should work. If you come across a bug, or you want to request a new feature, please let me know in the support discord server!

Content filtering update!

The newest update to the new version of findtags is content filtering! You can add/remove as many filters as you want.

When you come across a post that contains one of your filters, it will warn you. By default there will be an option to open the original post:

But you can disable this:

Important findtags update!

Back in 2020, findtags was released. It was written using jQuery and hosted directly on this blog. There were several problems with this:

jQuery isn't necessarily 'wrong', but there are better, more modern ways to handle this (here's some examples).

I couldn't test anything without publishing it first (yikes)

I couldn't properly hide the api key (double yikes)

So what's the future of findtags?

Findtags isn't going away, but it is moving away from being hosted on this blog. In the process I have completely rewritten findtags using TypeScript and React.

What's changed?

On this blog, nothing has really changed yet! I intend on keeping the new version as similar to the old/current version as possible. I did add a little warning at the top of the blog to help the transition:

Feel free to use/test the new version and let me know if you run into any problems! Until the official release, the old findtags will still be available to use on this blog.

Here’s what the filter is looking like now!

It’s not live yet, though. I still have a few more things to add.

You can add and delete filters, and show/hide filtered post permalinks. Your selections will be saved with localstorage as well, so you won’t have to keep re-entering them every time you refresh.

Introducing findtags

Are your post sometimes hidden in tag results?  Are you not seeing all of the posts in your tracked tags? Are you missing out on content in the fandom tags you’re looking through? 

Findtags fixes that by pulling all of the posts in a tag using the API.

How does findtags help?

Some posts are being filtered out of tags, especially if they have external links. Because the API will pull every post (as long as the tag is within the first 5 tags of a post), those posts will not be hidden from these search results. 

Findtags makes it easier for artists and other content creators to be seen, and for you to accurately look through your tracked tags. 

How do you use it?

Go to @findtags and enter the tag you want to look at! The results will automatically be added to the page.

I still need to add support for all post types, but it should cover the most common ones for now. I just deployed this during my lunch break so I won't be updating more for a bit but I'm excited so I wanted to share.

Hey, there! I've been using your findtags tool to help me browse tumblr since they locked tags and searches behind a paywall, but recently the tool seems to be broken. It's not showing any posts when I search for tags, but it doesn't say there's no results found or anything like that. Just wanted to give you a heads up!

Hey! I've mentioned this a few times, but findtags will sometimes get timed out as there is a limit to how many times it can be used in an hour. It's currently working for me, so try to check back periodically if this happens!

Edit: I'm confused about the paywall thing. Where do you see that happening?
