A vehicle with a Hanukkah ornament fixed atop was firebombed in Melbourne on Thursday before dawn, according to the Victoria Police and Community Security Group Victoria.
The car, with what police described as a billboard, was set alight while in the driveway of a St. Kilda East property, with no one inside at the time.
The car’s interior was extensively damaged, and multiple windows appeared to be smashed, local media reported. Police told The Jerusalem Post that residents were evacuated as a precaution.
Victoria Police said that they have identified someone "who may be able to assist with their investigation" and are searching for them.

→ Super duper lone wolf: Mohamed Soliman—an Egyptian immigrant—is accused of firebombing a small, weekly vigil in Boulder held for the Israeli hostages. Soliman—who reportedly had a tourist visa and then a work authorization under Biden, both of which had expired, but it was the era of immigration YOLO so he was in Colorado Springs having a blast—said he did it for Palestine, according to authorities. Now, given that reporters are in favor of the movement, the mainstream media had a few options to disappear this one. And they tried ’em all. First, they tried to make it sound like the opposite: Maybe this was an attack on a protest for Gaza. Ever considered that?
Fine, that didn’t stick. What about: The attacker was a lone wolf whose act had no political implications. You ever thought of how hard it is to make town squares into military-grade security corridors? That’s the question to ask now.
Those insecure public spaces are the real criminals, if you ask me.
Others asked us to consider whether the elderly Jewish Americans Mohamed allegedly lit on fire were truly peaceful. Here’s CNN: “A man reportedly set people on fire in Boulder, Colorado, leaving multiple individuals injured, the city’s police chief said, as people gathered for a ‘peaceful’ pro-Israeli demonstration.” Quote, unquote. “Peaceful,” but I heard that old lady sleeps with a bat under her bed. So. You tell me.
Okay, we’re getting somewhere here. Next, we just need to forget those charred Colorado Jews and focus on the flamethrower’s family. The only victim USA Today chose to profile was the suspected Molotov Man’s daughter. “Boulder suspect’s daughter dreamed of studying medicine. Now she faces deportation.” Very smart to keep her centered here. Now we’re cooking.
ABC News thought it was a good peg to note that Islamophobia is the real problem, not antisemitism. “While some politicians and pro-Israel activists have used antisemitism as a catchall word for an alleged motive in the attack, the suspect told investigators, ‘This had nothing to do with the Jewish community.’ ” That clears it up! Thank you, ABC. I was worried for a sec, but if it has nothing to do with the Jewish community, I’ll just go ahead and stop locking my door.
So in conclusion, nothing happened, it’s weird to jump to that conclusion, potentially Islamophobic, and if it did happen, it’s not what you think. Also: Do we really want to discourage doctors from practicing in America? Sounds anti-American dream, if you ask me. If we get rid of the doctors, who will treat the burns of the people who had a Molotov cocktail thrown at them?
Hundreds attend vigil to support victims of the Boulder firebombing attack
BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — Hundreds of people squeezed into the Jewish Community Center in Boulder, Colorado, for a vigil that featured prayer, singing and emotional testimony from a victim and witnesses of the firebombing attack in the city’s downtown, while a federal judge has blocked the deportation of the suspect’s family. Mohamed Sabry Soliman, 45, has been charged with a federal hate crime and…
Yesterday, a Melbourne Synagogue was lit ablaze in a violent act of antisemitism and arson. The two culprits have not yet been found, and the federal government is lending support to the Victorian police for the investigation. CCTV and any other potential evidence has been requested from locals by the police but so far I have been unable to find any source saying that they've been caught or identified.
Two people were inside, one was burned when he tried to open the door to get air into the building (he'd gone to a nearby shop to call for help).
My heart goes out to the Jewish community in Australia and especially Melbourne. As someone who's never been particularly religious, I can't even imagine how it must feel for a place of worship to be attacked and nearly destroyed.
I hope the Jewish community in Melbourne is able to recover from this. $100k AUD has been allocated by Premier Jacinta Allen for repairs to the building.

A witness who was inside the Melbourne synagogue firebombed before dawn on Friday has recounted fleeing the building to raise the alarm.
Yumi Friedman, founder of business Yumi’s dips, told this masthead he was inside Adass Israel synagogue in Ripponlea, in Melbourne’s inner south-east, with one other person at the time of the attack about 4.10am.
He heard a big bang and ran to his nearby shop, where a staff member called the police, he said.
When Friedman returned to the synagogue he found a small fire, which soon engulfed the building.
“I thought maybe I’ll be able to open the doors and go inside, but when I touched the door, I burnt my hand,” he said.
“Then I decided it [was] too dangerous. I went out.”
The arson squad is investigating the suspected firebombing at one of Australia’s busiest synagogues in the heart of Melbourne’s Jewish community.
Witnesses report seeing two suspects in dark clothing at the scene at the time of the attack.
Arson and explosives squad Detective Inspector Chris Murray said police “will do everything we can to bring these individuals before the courts”.
Murray also sought to reassure the Jewish community, by telling them police were “going to do our best to make sure that they can return, as they should, to their local synagogues, doing what is absolutely Australian – that is to be able to worship without fear”.
