♯┆the antidote? (ch.2)
how did this even occur, what was his issue, all you did was say hi to him once and now he won't stop making conversation and his hand keeps making his way into your hair and next thing you know your only friend is george weasley.

- why can't you come stitch me up?
that summer before your sixth year, you only heard from george with hidden owls and messily written post cards as he complained about how the quidditch world cup was ruined by the infamous deatheaters, and how harry got lost, nearly giving molly a heart attack.
george abandoned his twin to find you on the train as he looked for your compartment, he heard an intensely familiar laugh. it was you, but who would be making you laugh, you didn't have many friends at all apart from him. he walked into the compartment to find you sat across from adrian pucey.
"oh george! hello." you greeted warmly with adrian across from you and easily acknowledging the utter disbelief on george's face.
"hello, you busy?" george asked with caution and confusion.
"no, no she isn't. she just finished up chatting with a friend." pucey said with a smirk standing up from his spot and grazing your shoulder as a goodbye before he disappeared from the compartment and george shut the compartment door swiftly afterwards.
"what did that prick want?" george asked with slight irritation as he took adrian's prior spot.
"he isn't that much of a prick." you said simply amused by george's attitude.
"i don't believe that, love. have you seen him on the pitch, he is a bloody menace. no morals is what the bloke has." george said running a hand through his hair in frustration.
"his father and mine work together in ministry, so he came over this summer for a bit."
"you spent the summer with him?"
"no, i spent a week with him while our parents conducted business."
"i'm sorry he was in your home? for a WEEK?"
"yes, what's the issue?" you asked.
"we have never hung out in the summer before!"
"that's different."
"different, my arse." he said with a huff, dropping dramatically onto the seat.
"i didn't even know he was coming over, he isn't that bad. he said we would hang out during the school year." you explained.
"and you're willingly hanging out with him?" george asked in disbelief as he looked at you like you had grown an extra head.
"you are acting like he cursed your bloodline."
"he could! you never know." he exclaimed and you busted out laughing. "i'm serious, y'know." george added pressing his lips together, trying not to laugh along with you.
once you had arrived at hogwarts, you two had settled back into the comfort of your friendship. riding the carriage to the doors of the grand castle together.
that night george sat in his robes the gryffindor table across the great hall from you at as they sorted the first years into their respective houses. he was bored to death to say the least, that was until dumbledore announced the triwizard tournament and the yule ball, then he immediately turned to face fred both with nearly identical grins.
you just rolled your eyes at their antics and suddenly pulled away from your staring as adrian, pansy, and blaise started discussing the tournament beside you and you joined into the tempting conversation. they gossiped about who from the houses would drop their names and who they wanted to go with for the ball just like the rest of the great hall. but of course, dumbledore and snape started shushing us to announce one last thing, the best thing in many students opinion. the graceful beauxbatons and the intense durmstrang students coming into the great hall with their captivating entrances.
both sets of witches and wizards came in with pride and it only powered the excitement of the hall. george attempted to catch your reaction to their entrance but there was so much commotion, you were hidden. luckily for him he found you right after dismissal grabbing you by your shoulder gently before the crowd separated the two of you.
"did you see how proper they all came in!" he said in excitement, immediately catching your gaze. and you nodded with a smile at his exuding excitement as he nearly jumped out of his skin.
"it was so sick! i mean the uniforms from both schools are so charming and fitting." you added with admiration for the newly seen witches and wizards.
he nodded in agreement and then continued to rant about his opinion on the entrances and the upcoming tournament as he instinctively guided you out of the great hall with his hand still on your shoulder until you two were out of the crowd where he reluctantly dropped his hand and just started walking you to the slytherin dungeon door and no falter in his rant.
once you got to the doors he finally stopped right in front of you to give you a smile and a small, "sorry, love. got a bit carried away." with a tint of red on his cheeks and a hand rubbing the back of his neck in embarrassment of his never-ending chatter.
"it's okay, george."
"huh?" he asked looking at you as he leaned down a bit to hear you better as he had not catched what you had said.
"i- i said it was okay. nothing i'm not used to." you said quickly clearing up your stutter at the shock of his closeness, hoping he didn't notice and seemingly, he didn't.
he just smiled with a nod and straightened back up, clearing his throat. "i'll leave you be then, good night, love."
"sweet dreams." you said with a soft tired smile before turning to the dungeon door to step into the knowingly cold slytherin common room.
george just sent one last forever comforting smile before making his way back to across the castle to the gryffindor tower. once in his common room he searched for fred and when he didn't find him in the common room he headed up to their dorm.
"FRED! are you in bed yet?" george exclaimed as he bursted into their dorm.
"no, you dimwit. where were you?" fred replied in his boxers ready for bed as he dried his ginger locks a towel.
"walking her to her dorm." george casually responded
fred didn't even need to ask who HER was. "are you asking her to the yule ball?"
"what? n-no, i don't know actually. maybe, well unless she wants to go with someone else, which i doubt, right?" george said stumbling over himself and his words as he took his shoes off.
"well, you should. i think i'm going to ask angelina."
"really? angie? i would have thought you to venture out from your childhood crush." george teased and dodging a hex from his brother.
"you aren't any better." fred said with a scoff.
"watch it. also the yule ball isn't for a couple of months anyways. maybe i find someone else to ask by december."
"i doubt it. just imagine her wrapped around someone else for one night, you wouldn't survive." fred instigated.
"oh yeah? how sure are you?" george questioned unable to resist a good gamble.
"i bet you, let's say, 50 galleons. that you don't ask her and let her go with some other bloke AND you don't intervene no matter who asks her." fred offered, tossing his towel aside to reach out and shake on it.
"fine, deal." george said reaching to shake fred's hand as a spur of the moment thing, shaking his hand to seal the bet.
the harm of the bet didn't really hit george until a couple weeks later when the first yule ball proposal was given to a ravenclaw girl right after your shared divination class and he saw the happiness that the genuine gesture brought to your face even when it wasn't for you. george's heart immediately sunk to his stomach realizing he wouldn't get to be the cause for your reaction because of his stupid pride. what hit him even worse was when he saw that adrian was also looking at you as you smiled for the lucky ravenclaw girl who excitedly accepted the proposal from the hufflepuff girl.
"that was so cute. i had heard rumors that monica was going to give a proposal to sandie but it ended up being the opposite way around!" you commented with a smile as the two of you started walking to the great hall for lunch. "monica was beaming, oh my goodness, it was so adorable."
"yeah, yeah it was quite nice." george replied with a certain odd nonchalance in his tone that you instantly caught onto.
"it was, everything okay?" you asked looking over at him to see if there was anything visibly wrong.
"yeah, everything's good. come on let's go eat." george said dodging the topic as he entered the great hall and grabbed your wrist to pull you to the table full of lunch options and handed you an empty plate.
"okay.." you muttered with suspicions but merely decided to stay silent as you took the plate with a quick, "thanks" to then serve yourself up lunch and walk over to your usual spot trying to casually dismiss his odd behavior.
george took a breath as he stacked up his plate then setting it down as he sat across from you.
"so, are you planning on asking anyone to the ball?" you asked casually making conversation before taking a bite of your food.
george's gaze snapped to your instantly in shock. i mean, how could you even ask such a thing. "no, not really. it has not crossed my mind actually." he lied as he looked away from your gaze to look at the assortment of food he had served himself, which suddenly looked very unappetizing. "why do you ask?"
"curiosity, i mean everyone is talking about the ball and the tournament. "
"true. i guess i just don't deem it that important. have you been thinking about the ball?" he added trying to be slick.
"i have been thinking about it. it sounds really fun." you said genuinely. "it sounds lovely actually. we all get to dress up, dance, and eat. also i think the proposals are just wonderful. i guess i do deem it quite important."
george couldn't look you in the eye as the remorse trickled in. he just shoved some food in his mouth allowing you to continue to talk about how grand the ball was likely to be and how excited you were to come up with something to wear.
"do you have anyone you would like to go with?" he finally asked looking at you after he swallowed back his food.
you stared at him for a moment carefully before saying. "i'm not sure actually. i mean i did have someone in mind but i don' t think i will be asked so… yeah. but i could end up going alone as well." you ranted out.
he just took another bite of his meal with a nod in acknowledgement of your words before merely avoiding eye contact.
your usually comfortable lunch was souring by the second as neither of you made a move to start up another conversation. but with much luck, none at all, simply the knowing chaos
fred showed up and plopped himself down beside george with a plate of food in competition with his brothers.
"g'day you all. did you see monica and sandie's yule proposal thingy! first one of the year." fred commented unknowing of the preceding tension.
"yeah, we were leaving our lecture when it happened actually." you said with a small smile as you thought of the moment that had been mere minutes prior.
"any bets on whose proposing next?" fred asked with blatant curiosity.
george nearly choked on his water, fred cocked his eyebrow up in amusement and you looked over in oblivion.
"any opinions, lad?" fred teased george trying not to laugh knowingly.
george glared at fred and then responded with, "maybe cedric will ask cho."
"oh! yes. i hope he does something grand for her before he adds himself to that goblet of fire." you said immediately excited to hear about the couple of the year. "they are such a charming couple. aren't they?" you added gesturing to where the two sat across the great hall all lovey dovey with each other.
"they are a cute pair. anyways, sweetheart." fred said turning to look at you directly taking your attention. "when do you plan to get into the dating seen, cannot go all alone to the ball, pretty."
"fred!" george shot daggers at fred's invasive and out of the blue question.
you looked at him shocked for a second and then cleared your throat, replying with, "i think we all know i don't really date. not something i ever really tried… i don't even know where i would start."
"really? i know a couple of chaps that could be interested. are you opposed to lads of any houses? and what about ladies? what are we thinking here?" fred continued with a smile on his face.
you simply laughed at his shenanigans, slightly flustered at the topic of conversation. meanwhile george was attempting to hold back from strangling his brother on the spot.
"let me set you up on a date! it will open the doors for you, i promise i will choose someone proper nice. then people will see you are available. and you can snag a fit date to the yule ball." fred pressed only meaning about 60% well and the other 40% in pissing george off.
you thought about it for a second. you really did, you didn't socialize much outside of your known people, maybe it would do you good. then again there was possible danger in letting others in. you barely upheld a couple of good friendships on top of being academically sound, what if a romantic addition was too much? and if they don't like you then what? it was a risky agreement, truly odd and-
"fine, yes, set me up with someone."
