Monthly Deity - Zeus
Hello everyone! This month, we’re honoring Zeus and His virtues of Justice and Orderliness!
I’ve always liked Zeus for the very basic reason of he makes fantastic thunderstorms and I’m weak for lightening. It feels amazing to sit outside and feel the ground rumble, to shout anything you want at the sky, express any emotion, and feel like you’re being heard. I’ve also read a few accounts from His followers about how kind and protective He is. The Father of the Gods has rough moments, as most other deities do, but he is caring and attentive when needed.
The first virtue is Justice, one that I think we really need right now. With such a deficit in justice this year, it’s important that we bring little bits of it into our own lives. If I hear someone spreading false information, saying cruel things, or being close minded it’s important that I speak up. But this doesn’t have to be in such stressful situations. If I get a poor grade that I feel I didn’t deserve then it’s my job to seek my own justice and talk to someone about it. If I’m trying to quit a habit and I keep relapsing then it would be unjust for me to give up on myself, I deserve better! Look for little places in your life where you can get justice for yourself or someone else, every little bit helps!
The second value is Orderliness, and this one was a bit hard to come up with. Order can mean a lot of things, but at its base it’s the absence of chaos. That can mean finally cleaning your room, setting up a chore schedule around the house, organizing your workspace, or even just making sure you sit down two or three times a week and take care of any stray anxieties you’ve been feeling. Orderliness means taking care of yourself and your environment, trying to keep things as nice as possible as often as possible. Sometimes I make a mistake and things just spiral. Allowing one dish in my room suddenly becomes a dish and a cup, thena plate joins the party, and suddenly I have all the forks in my house and people are eating their steaks with spoons.Slipping up is easy, and fixing that slip up can be hard, but if I catch myself in the moment, if I make the active choice to keep things in order, then I might make some progress. I’m going to be focusing on this virtue for the first week.
