In mid-1870s upstate New York, an enormous group of fae, fungal hivemind/colonial organisms become obsessed fall in love with the amateur mycologist exploring their woods.
First person plural narration! The mycologist is a trans woman! Implied unethical experiments! Period-accurate terminology for both transness AND fungi! Even more weird stuff!
“Deadname” is one of my favorite things I’ve ever written--not because it was easy to write, but because it was difficult. I've enjoyed wrestling with this one and I'm excited to share it with all of you.
