watching mtv in south africa. “call your girlfriend” and then my new favorite song “devastation” by flash republic appeared out of nowhere. that riff? unreal. her eyebrows? perfection. the superimposed tiger? a dream.

saw them live for the equivalent of 6 dollars. got a photo with lead singer tamara dey. she's hot, and seemingly really dope. will post the photo. today, we saw her on the cover on a south african magazine. felt pretty cool.

Once again I'm faced with a dilemma. Choosing only one song for the day. At least this time, the songs that are presenting me with such a conundrum are all by the same artist/group of artists. So, to keep the peace between myself and my mind (which has been arguing with me about this all morning), we're (that's me and my mind) have decided to roll with all three – yes, three! – of these tunes and her's why. When Flash Republic burst on to the scene in 2005, we (that's all the so-called music crits and fans) all knew they'd be chart-topping sensations. I mean, with disco diva Tamara Dey, and producers/DJs Ryan Dent and Craig Massiv at the helm, there was no way Flash Republic would go anywhere but up on the charts. Mixing up bold flashes (excuse the pun) of eighties beats with banging electro rhythms and the cool vocal style of the former First Lady of Kwaito – aka Tamara Dey, the band (can we even call them that?) has revolutionised SA dance music. And pushing even more boundaries than 'Twister' and 'Star' before it, 'In The Name Of Dance' –the first single off the trio's third album Killer Moves – sees them teaming up with guitarist Martin Rocka and drummer Isaac Klawansky to bring you a punchy, visceral and new element to the already well-known Flash sound.
