How about an AU where Qrow ends up accidentally adopting a bunch of kids and tries to be a good father figure to them, all the while struggling with his own issues and his job?

So for this one, I've upped the timeline a little since he basically has this in the later seasons.
Shortly before Summer's "death" Qrow is on a mission when he sees two kids leaving from a village that had been overrun by Grimm. He guides them to Patch where they will be safe, figuring they could hang out with his nieces, with Summer and Tai.
Turns out, he's half right. Seeing that Tai is a shell of a human he starts taking over the household and watching the kids. Unable to spare time for drinking, he slowly sobers up, and finds out a way to use his bad luck powers to prepare for disaster instead of dwelling on it.
After Tai rebounds, with a few black eyes and bruised knuckles on Qrow's fist, he is able to take another mission. Simple scouting over in Mantle after a dust mine collapse. He finds a girl raging at her classmates, and sees the same rage in himself… Ilia joins the flock. Suddenly, Ilia is no longer an orphan and in a much, MUCH warmer climate. The fact that the family is pro-Faunus is not lost on the angry girl. Nor is she the only angry one, and finds out swiftly that sparring is perfectly acceptable as a way of 'debating' who gets the last pudding cup. No one fights over cookies, they are just gone.
He still teaches at Signal, and with Tai's help they ensure at least one of them is available for the kids when they are needed. There is talk about them among the town folk, something about "Whole Team" Taiyang finally getting the last one, even their cute little 'date nights' attending the kids' sports are gossip fodder.
When they all get accepted into Beacon, there is talk about applying for professorship among the kids. The adults are just looking to finally being able to breathe... Wait what do you flocking mean Ruby's going too?!
