Bunny lovers please beware…

If you like these faux rabbit fur accessories, please be careful because you might accidentally buy one made out of a real rabbit.

The pink one was a gift from a friend. $15 faux fur fluff ball keychain from Victoria’s Secret. 

The white one I got from ebay.  $3 “Soft Faux Fur PomPom DIY Car Handbag Keychain Fluffy Ball Pendant Accessories”

At a glance they appear similar, but the white one was made out of real rabbit fur to my horror!!!  Even though I messaged the seller before buying to double check and confirm it really was faux fur. It turned out that the seller just assumed the item was fake because it was cheap.  *UGH!! They are cheap because rabbits breed fast and are easy to raise for fur...Q_Q

How to check a fluffy ball for faux/ real fur:  

Besides feeling the fur (real fur is softer), you can look closely at the tips of the fur... Faux fur has flat tip from trimming.  Real fur has naturally soft tapered look. 

Spread apart the fur, faux fur has a mesh material at the base for planting the fake fur and a needle can easily poke through the mesh.

Spread apart the real fur ball you see animal skin, thick leather-like material at the base and it’s much harder for noodle to poke through.

I heart sank as I was testing the fluffy ball.... I kept hoping it was fake...

Now that I think about it....it was stupid of me to buy from ebay.  *I don’t usually buy this kind of stuff but I thought I’d get a white one to make my own Tsurumaru keychain because I have a Tsurumaru pendent.  I wanted a fake fluff ball....Orz

I felt really sad and messaged the seller saying I regret buying this. At first I was upset, thinking they lied to me to make a sale, but they eventually apologized saying they’re not sure if it’s real or faux anymore and offered partial refund. I didn’t want any refund.  I told them it’s more important that they know what they’re selling and change their item description so people who care about animals won’t accidentally support animal cruelty. 

...I was depressed and didn’t know what to do with this fluff ball!!!  I felt especially guilty when Maru was looking at it.  Me, a vegan AND loyal rabbit slave, buying a real rabbit fur item??!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

The friend who gave me the pink faux fur ball tried to comfort me and said I can say Buddhist prayers for it everyday, and my sister tried to make me feel better by saying ...maybe it’s fate and this rabbit (the fluff ball) wanted to come to me. (I was like...”but here’s only a section of its body Q口Q???”)  I don’t know anymore... but I’ll take extra good care of it for sure, and this will never happen again. 

I decided to share this post hopefully to prevent more people like me from accidentally supporting fur industry & animal cruelty.   I should’ve been a lot more careful...
