wanted to doodle a few hcs i have for ed and al's appearance bc its one of my favourite things to cook up. i especially love ed inheriting many visual traits from his fathers side, something something about the child who dislikes one parent ending up so similar to them … my bugs

Do you think Ed ever feels haunted and guilty for all the ways he neglected himself in the search for their bodies after he found out he was neglecting Al too? Do you think he ever looks at Al recovering and think: I also did this to him.

Did you notice how in the beginning Roy's team is just him, Hawkeye and Havoc. And after the timeskip Falman, Breda and Fuery joined?

I headcanon that the three were put into the team when Mustang was stationed to East City. And because of this the team had to learn to work together. Of course with them it was quick since they shared working space but Ed is travelling the country and just never has the time.

So it takes a few months until HR decides the team should spend a few days in training, like Special Ops style. Sleeping in tent, training missions and such, it would be a bit like bootcamp but the purpose was to hitch the team together.

Fuery and Breda, who have yet to meet Ed, are afraid the boy might be arrogant, he is a prodigy after all. Ed is worried they won't like him and will 'baby' him.

"Chief is fine, he will go from 0 to 100 in a millisecond but you'll like him" Havoc says.

Hughes tries to tell Ed that everyone is excited to meet him and to Fuery and Breda he says "the kid is all bark and no bite." He even offers to be a supervisor during this training.

And on the first morning Edward shows up in cargo pants, jacket, shoes and a shy smile and every adult in their head's vow to protect that child forever.

Some other notions, feel free to add:

- Ed has amazing survival skills, he outshines everyone. He can identify every fish they catch and make a fire using nothing but sticks

- Ed is also good with maps. Their training missions includes finding four pitchstops and he quickly becomes their main navigator

- Hughes advices others that the way to Ed's heart is to ask for the boy's help. Fuery takes this advice and includes Ed in his tasks and soon they are deep in talk

- Mustang has already suspected Ed can't swim due to his automail and gets confirmation when the boy absolutely refuses to go to the lake despite it being a scorching hot day. By the last day and after lots of convincing and promises to help if need arose the boy gathers enough courage and enters the lake

- Mustang is already planning deep water rescue training

- Ed is the first to crash at night, which is not too surprising, although he makes a valiant effort to stay awake and is pretty much sleeptalking by the end.

Okay, so we all agree that at some point, Ed climbed into Al's (armour) body for some strange stealth mission, and they spent like half the time arguing and there was a bit with a random guard thinking that this suit of armour was possessed by two teenage children, right?

Another fma headcanon of mine is that when Ed becomes a dad he did everything he could to not he like hoenheim which made him really involved with his kids lives and well being

I don't think Ed and Al know what a shark is. I don't think they've ever heard of one. Because. They dropped out of school in (the American equivalent of) the fourth grade. They live in a landlocked country that would have no reason to teach even the most basic marine biology in a tiny village in bumfuck nowhere. So unless they saw a shark chimera in a book or a lab somewhere...

The Elric brothers do not know what sharks are.

an interesting dynamic i kinda wanna see more of is narcoleptic ed and insomniac al. like not just post canon, but like before canon.

like as children, especially for hohenheim, who’s not used to kids, or for just trisha, it would be a HANDFUL to deal with it.

like as kids, trisha and hohenheim would be absolutely ECSTATIC for al to finally go to sleep and just ed waking him up and the pure despair that the two parents feel.

or waking up at 4am to realize the boys had never gone to bed.

or al wondering why he can’t have his elbows on the table at dinner but question why ed can just sleep at the table and trisha not knowing how to explain it to him.

and it’s most definitely hohenheim’s fault. they both inherited their father’s strained relationship with sleep.

Headcanon that before meeting Roy, Rebecca had a similar expectation as Mai thinking about Ed.

She thought he was cool and cute, because everyone in the military talked about him, and Riza just looked at her like ಠ‿ಠ them she met him and "Omg Riza he is an idiot, why do ya like him??"
