Twilight Conventions

I was debating posting this, this past year.  I might get heat for it, I might not.  I was trying to forget it. The people involved, the event itself, everything. But apparently that’s not an option.

I worked with a new convention company last year, and part of 2019 (prep work).  That event, and company was called ForeverCon, hosted by Digital Volumes Productions.

Some people will tell you that the event went off without a hitch.  I’m telling you it was the exact opposite.  I’m not going to publish a novel on here about the event itself, I’ll tag the two blog posts I wrote about the event below.

I thought it would be great working with a convention company.  And it was, until the event itself.  Until I tried my absolute best to make sure everything went off without a hitch because the owner couldn’t be bothered, or the other celebrity handlers couldn’t understand why someone had to escort the celebrities to and from the green room or be in the green room.  Or so much more.

And then I was told that I took over.  By people who had NEVER worked a convention before.  Who never had to deal with the stress and insanity that comes with working one.  I’ve volunteered at a few conventions before, as a supply/food runner or in the vendors room. Never as staff.  Never as a handler, or any of the other jobs that I did that weekend.

After the event, the post-convention events, which I describe in my blog posts, spiraled.  I blocked almost everyone associated with the event itself and cut ties.

After the event, I even talked to one of the guests that had cancelled the event due to his wife being due with their child a good four months before the event but it wasn’t posted on the website, just his stuff taken down, and removed from packages without telling anyone.  It was only posted about three months after, in the private Facebook group. His autograph was included in one of the packages for the convention, and was said that he would be signing autographs post event for whoever purchased them.  Yeah, I know for a fact that didn’t happen.  I will not mention his name here.  

And two other stars cancelled, the week of the event (yes I know it happens) due to health issues, and instead of posting it online, they only told people once they arrived to the event, at registration.

A year later, and my brain isn’t letting me forget it.  

Ever since January 1st when last year I was making my way to Orlando, I have been having nightmares, flashbacks, panic attacks, and so much more.

A simple event, a simple weekend left me with the feeling of insecurity, and pain.  

I’m not asking for sympathy, or pity.  All I want is to warn people about this event, and the people that run it.  They do not know how to run a convention.
