“I’m going to fail again.” Homura’s fingers wrapped around the links of the fence defeat, head pressing against the cool metal beside her hand. The Incubator had just left the roof, leaving the girl alone to her thoughts that were spoken aloud. It was only herself, after all, that she felt comfortable speaking to. Herself, and Madoka.
“I’ll have to go back again, for her sake.” Further back, probably, to ensure Kyubey did not get his grubby paws on her once more. Stepping away from the fence, her hand moved towards her wrist, thinking to transform and obtain her shield. However, she stopped, fingers hovering over her soul gem. “…I still have time…” She mumbled gently before taking another step back and seating herself on a bench.
“All I have to do is protect her a little longer. Madoka’s already made her contract, but…” A small glance down at her soul gem again, Homura let out a sigh. “But I have time, I can spend a little more time with her…I can see that smile...That beautiful, beautiful smile.” Her own lips perked a little at the thought of Madoka, violet colored eyes closing behind lids, imagining the pinkette in front of her.
“She’s so kind this time around…As kind when I first met her.” Homura breathed, relishing the images behind her lids. “Calling me her friend, caring for me so much? It makes me want to just tell her.” Slowly opening her eyes, she lifted her hand, gesturing out before her.
“What would she say? If I told her I loved her? That I’ve loved her for years’ worth of time and that I’d do anything to hear that she doesn’t find me repulsive?” Her smile faded, hand dropping down towards her side. “Even if closer and closer to becoming a witch, it doesn’t matter what happens to me as long as she can keep her sweet smile and kindness. That cheer she has inside of her, that’s….that’s what’s important.”
“She can hate me, find me the villain, I won’t care, as long as she doesn’t change. But even as she is now, even if we’re…she’s…doomed, I’ll do it over and over again until I get it right. I’ve messed up already, so…I hope she can forgive me for being selfish.” A hand moved to her heart, closing her eyes once more. “I just want a little longer with her, to love that smile a little longer before she doesn’t remember who I am again.”
Dipping her head a little, her voice turned a fraction softer as she parted her hair, bringing the two sides to the front, emulating her braids she had discarded before a hand lifted up again, as if offering to be held. “…Kaname-san…will you please accept my feelings?” Violet eyes opened slowly, the gentle smile adorning her features.
“I wish I could have told you that a long time ago.” Shaking her head, the hair shifted back into place, the girl turning on her heel. “Maybe…No, it won’t matter if I say that now. Even if she did, I…I already know how this will end.”
