I’ve started working on the background I intend to project my film onto, I’m currently just using statistics but would also like to incorporate some quotes from some of my interviews. Inspired by Maria Wigley’s work I’m experimenting with dissolvable fabric and how it can be used with normal fabric.

Due to the lockdown I’m unable to source large pieces of fabric easily so I’m making use of the smaller bits I’ve got and intend to make some kind of messy patchwork. I actually think this will be more effective and interesting than a single piece.

Start of my second FMP sketchbook, trialing different textiles techniques. Including dissolvable fabric, which I’d like to try experimenting with a bit more, and using free machine embroidery to write out mental health statistics. I’ve chosen to focus on young people’s mental health as this is something important to me and often brushed over. The first one I did was white on white which made it really hard to read but I did quite like the idea of it being subtle. As I’m also planning on creating a film so this could be something to project on and therefore would need to be quite subtle to not interrupt the viewing. I also like the message near invisible statistics send, it reflects how mental illness in children and young people is often ignored or brushed off.
