Soulmate prompt for Rie & Em: the one where whenever you get a song stuck in your head, it’s because your soulmate is singing it.
@storyknitter I’m so sorry this took me forever to do!! But it’s here now, with Rielay full of piss and vinegar :’)
(to which, a gentle reminder that this is platonic. Remember who these idiots are haha)
It wasn’t often that Rielay Taqq was on a mission such as she was on a fine Coruscant day. Less than even that did she find herself hunting for one particular person, whom she knew nothing about except for one song and intuition.
Her head whipped around faster than an animated cartoon’s, her eyes narrowing in on the young man leaning against the post, engrossed in his datapad and humming a maddeningly familiar song. Not particularly caring that he was dressed in the formal attire befitting of at least an intern at the Senate Tower, if not an Associated Planetary Representative, she whipped around on one heel and stalked towards him, pushing her her sleeves.
He was tall–infuriatingly tall–and she pushed herself onto her toes to grab the lapels of his nice jacket, yanking him down viciously so they were eye to eye. “You!”
People were starting to stare, some hands starting to itch towards their holocomms and from the corner of her eye she saw the man–boy, really, she noted with a slight wince–raise his hand in a warding off gesture. His eyes were locked on hers, a clear grey free of any fear. “Me…?”
Rielay grit her teeth, giving a little shake to his jacket. “You’ve been singing that stars damned song for days, it’s driving me insane!”
He looked at her uncomprehendingly for a long moment and some idle part of her not spitting in frustration wondered if it was getting uncomfortable for him to be hunched over in the manner she had pulled him. Briefly she considered letting him go as he thought and then in petty frustration decided that no, she rather liked having this instigator eye to eye.
“I don’t know you.” he finally mused. “I’ve never seen you…” his eyes went wide with curious awe. “Unless…have you been singing that one song about raising hell every night for the last few months?”
Dammit, oh stars help her. This upstart, Coruscanti upstart wasn’t her..soulmate..platonic or no. All that soulmate stuff was just nonsense.
“Yeah, I am, because it’s my job, what’s your excuse?”
“I…like the song?” he hedged before his eyes lit up. “But does that mean…?”
Rielay yelped when she was suddenly swept off her feet, pulled in a circle as she clung to her fistful of jacket and spluttered like an infuriated cat. “Don’t say it! It’s bullshit! Buil shit!” she aimed a kick at his knees, missed on the first try, hit on the second, stumbling without dignity when he yelped out a curse and let her go. “Put me down!”
“Ow–!” He turned a wounded look on her, to which she glared. “Alright, alright, I’m sorry. I got too enthusiastic.”
Tentatively he held out his hand. “I’m Emeldir Deryn…maybe we should talk?”
His hand dwarfed hers when she shook it, petulant expression breaking into a small, reluctant smile at his apologetic shyness. “Captain Rielay Taqq. Maybe we should.”
