The Ryukyu Kingdom (now known as Okinawa Prefecture by Japan) began as a unified nation in 1429. The name is derived from the Ming Dynasty, when China gave the name 琉球國. Sho Hashi requested for families from China to live in the Ryukyu Kingdom to help with maritime affairs, and the Ming Dynasty sent thirty-six families from Fujian. [1] They settled in Kume.

These pictures are of 福州園 Fuzhou/Fukushūen Garden, which is a traditional Chinese garden. It was constructed in 1992, in celebration of the sister-city relationship between Naha and Fuzhou and also because of the historical relationship between the two.

I took my homeroom students out for a walk yesterday. We went to Fukushu En Chinese Gardens, which is near our school (LIFE Jr. College) here in Okinawa, Japan. @LifeJrCollege https://life.ac.jp For each of them it was their first time to visit Fukushu En, which is quite a beautiful and tranquil place in the middle of Naha City. Of course I took a lot of photos of and with them. We had a nice time together. They study hard every single day, so doing something different is a good idea sometimes.
