In the manga, it’s phrased slightly differently. He says the goal is to get the girl’s family to “abandon her.”

And then Fyodor does this:

So since I will never be able to fully believe that Fyodor is dead here's my theory on why Fyolai is one sided (for now):

I think Fyodor is just into people that he thinks can (understand him yes but also) kill him dead permanently. I mean we all remember him lamenting the fact that Dazai ultimately couldn't outsmart him while rubbing up on Atsushi, talking about "he wasn't fit to be my other half but maybe you could be the next best thing".

So my theory is he was into Dazai because Dazai’s ability made him think he could kill him, but when Dazai failed to do that he moved on to Atsushi on the assumption some latent bookmark ability might be able to do it. But then Atsushi turned into a sniveling crying wreck (his friends just died in front of him) and Fyodor was like ew this is not sexy.

He was fun and flirty during Nikolai's death game but he also definitely treated it like a "it's cute that you thought this could kill me" kind of deal. Which could translate into "it's cute that you thought you were in my league" in more ways than one.

What I'm saying is Nikolai just needs to regroup and step up his game for next time. They can still be endgame

i do need atsushi to sit and ponder the fact that he was flirted with by fyodor though. he can do that in london for all i care. while eating beans on a toast or whatever godforsaken nonsense they eat. i hope he goes crazy from the tasteless food and eats a brit.
