Fellow Physical Media Warriors - if you don’t already know, there is a website called DoesItPlay that tests newer physical games to determine whether they’re genuinely playable off the disc (yay) or if they’re essentially a digital game with more steps (boo).

It’s also great if you like to thrift games, because it warns you if content is restricted to a one-time-use code.

This problem will only worsen as systems age and servers shut down. Don’t accidentally buy coasters!

For Collection Day of Sonic Spirit Week 💎… it is time for me to unleash the hoard.

This is a collection that has taken many, many years to grow, with the help of family and friends along the way. I’m relatively selective on things I choose to admit into the collection, and so you’ll see some gaps. It’s not as MASSIVE of a collection as we might be used to seeing, but I recognize it’s far from small, and I’m so grateful for the privileges I’ve had that allow me to have a collection like this—or any collection—including the home I live in that stores my things, living in a country with mostly uninhibited access to merchandise of this nature, the time and energy it takes to access the first- and second-hand markets, and the financial means to accrue such capital.

I want to start with my small collection of Sonic Symphony World Tour merch—such an amazing event I’m so glad stopped in Canada!

I’d be remiss not to mention my rinky-dinky homemade earrings and the little chaos emerald stickers I put on my face when I went to the concert in 2024 lol. Clearly, that night was a very life-affirming experience!

Oh… what’s that? What’s that reflecting in my dusty mirror??

It’s my Core Four™️ standee birthday card, of course! Unsigned... I just like having it as a little decoration!

Moving down to my “sonic shelf,” we have some books, some hallmark figurine ornaments, Amy’s fortune deck, Gerald’s journal, and my seven diamond-shaped paper weights that happen to be coloured like the chaos emeralds… total coincidence, I swear!

Down one more tier on the shelf, next to my physical copies of all three Paramount Sonic movies and a physical release of Japanese Sonic X (subbed), we will find every single Sonic game I will ever care to own!

Including special storage for Sonic Advance 1, 2, and 3…

…and close ups of my copies of Sonic Unleashed, Sonic UnWiished, and Sonic World Adventure (my joys, my beloveds, my darling baby boys)!

I truly love and treasure all of my little goodies, and I am eternally grateful to have Sonic in my life in this capacity. so yeah you could say i like video games.

we did actually own most (hm. maybe half) of these wii games before 2022, but they were either in storage or under the TV. Later, my sister and I would split them, with her getting most of the good games (sans PokePark, Pokemon Battle Revolution, and New Super Mario Bros), and me getting everything else. I've been slowly rebuilding my collection of good games, but I've still got to get my own copies of Mariokart Wii and Kirby's Adventure Wii.

In terms of other things I'd like to get for this collection, I guess I'd like to get Animal Crossing City Folk and the Wii Zelda games. Maybe an English copy of Beat the Beat Rhythm Paradise if I ever find myself with too much money. Can't think of anything else off the top of my head but I'm sure I'll find something next Cashies run.

My DS/3DS collection has increased in size significantly for someone who only ever plays Picross e.

I went from one Gen 5 Pokemon game to a grand total of seven. And it's still not complete because I don't have an English copy of Black. I've diversified my collection though (believe it or not). I've gone from having almost exclusively Pokemon games, to having Pokemon games and twelve copies of Brain Training.

I bought about half the Japanese games there were bought while I was in Japan. The other half was bought when I got my first paycheck and went "YES! I can BUY things now!"

The list of DS/3DS games I want is extensive and expensive. It's longer than the list of games I do own. For brevity I won't list them.

I bought a Switch in 2021, actually before the "how it started" photo was taken. The collection's been steadily growing since then. Most of these were actually Christmas or birthday presents—Switch games are expensive and I am cheap. But this year I'm gonna try focusing on buying good games I'd actually like to play (rather than licensed crap) so I'm hoping to get some exciting additions to this pile real soon.
