Ways To Be A Garbage Witch
Look everyone, in These Trying Times we can't always afford things so we gotta make do with what we got. So here's some hot tips to help you become a garbage witch:
Save and use apple seeds, orange seeds, peach pits, cherry pits, etc. to use in your spells.
Make a spirit board/pendulum board out of an empty cardboard box.
Make drawstring pouches out of old clothes.
Use bag strings for binding magic or use them in small drawstring bags.
Shoelaces and drawstrings from old pajamas or sweatpants are fine for knot magic or turning into drawstrings for pouches.
Save glass jars for spell jars.
Study carrion animals, animals that eat garbage, fungus, and the process of decomposition in general. Learn about the importance of biodiversity, and the hazards of oversterilization.
But also study proper sanitation methods, and be aware of biohazards. Don't go living in a house fulla mold or fish through people's garbage for... uhhh... ummm... taglocks. Don't store chicken bones so they'll rot.
If you have a compost bin, write anything you want to "decompose" out of your life on a banana peel. Put the banana peel in the bin.
Learn how to repair broken stuff. (But also learn what you really shouldn't repair for yourself - EG, microwaves - lest you meet with a horrible fate.)
Make charms/talismans by cutting out pictures of things that correspond with your intent and decoupaging them onto wood, chipboard, or layered cardboard.
Make paper mache diety art/statues out of newspaper.
Learn more about crafting with scraps, packaging materials, old magazines, etc. (There's many videos on YouTube!)
I had a dream last night that my friend was so inspired by Kiki's Delivery Service that she became a witch, but there was nobody willing to pay a witch for a delivery service so she became a garbage witch instead, flying bags of garbage to the dump. She said that it was great because she got to fly around on a broomstick, but frustrating because she had to work very long hours to make up for being only able to carry one or two trashbags on her broomstick at a time. I met her at the garbage witch bar after work and another garbage witch said she'd let me borrow her broom, but it turned out to be a Tom Sawyer painting the fence situation where I accidentally agreed to take over her shift.
if you find prayer difficult or unengaging, consider keeping a "destroy this book" style free writing journal.
You "pray" by writing, scribbling, drawing, practice automatic writing, sigil making, etc, and then dedicate the page to your desired entity by anointing it with oil and herbs, sealing it with wax, staining it with coffee or tea, pressing little scraps of things into the hot wax on top of your prayers, etc.
it's basically a practice of free intuition that feels very very good, better for me than sitting in a dark room with a candle and speaking in a formal tone.
As an added benefit, once you fill your book, if you feel like labeling the pages (I didn't, lol), you have within your possession a lumpy, bumpy, messy compendium of beings you can use to summon that absolutely no one else will know what to do with.
Witch Tip: you can reuse empty pill bottles as spell jars! Might pack some bonus energy into it if the medication it used to hold has a similar purpose to the spell jar you're making.
[obligatory disclaimer that witchcraft is not a replacement for medicine]
Garbage Witch + Candle Magic
Using Candles for Witchcraft & Reminders to Use the Materials Wisely!
As witches, most of us adore candles & using them in our craft. We use them for so many reasons!
Here are how I use my candles:
Warmth, Light, Positivity
Meditation
Bath Magic (in the bathroom / near the tub with me)
Elemental Fire Energy
Offerings of Energy for my Companion Spirit
One thing I learned early on in my love for candles (before I even knew about witchcraft) was what to do with the old glass jars & the residual wax. At the time I did not know how to take care of them properly to not be wasteful.
Thankfully, I Have Learned Better!
I reuse the left over wax to create new recycled candles (for my own use)!
Plus! As I melt & mix the liquid wax after it’s melted I pour my intentions into my new creations!
D.W. for today! The Garbage witch returns and is trying to get away with wearing her normal clothes as a costume.. It’s a thing people do! However someone mentioned brooms and she’s become obsessed with flying one one despite never having actually used one before. And she probably stole it.
I honestly don’t know if I like the quotations in the answers so sorry it’s inconsistent!
Dear Jewish witches
I just want to say, in light of charlottesville and all this scary shit and antisemitism, I stand with you. I’m sorry for my privilege that allows me to be shocked that antisemitism is still a thing. I should know better and know that it has always been an enduring thing that you’ve been facing. You are on my mind so strongly and I will do better. I am sending you all the energy and strength and healing today. Of course my heart is with everyone threatened by this your pain and life has no less priority, but I have been forgetful.
