Spring starts early here in Georgia and I already have loads of fresh herbs in the backyard. I snipped a ton for the dehydrator and the kitchen smells SO GOOD! Fresh herbs are seriously the easiest things to grow for gardening newbies. If you want to try your hand at gardening but think you don’t have enough of a green thumb, look for rosemary, basil and oregano. Pests won’t touch it and all you need is plenty of sun and occasional watering. 🌧🌳🌧 When was the last time you really checked out your #sprinklersystem ? It may seem counterintuitive, but NOW…when your shrubs and trees are bare and cut back…is an excellent time to assess how effective your watering system is. You can more easily see its coverage, any leaks, and also note changes you might need to make in the future when the weather cooperates. Another tip: if something needs to be changed, repaired, amended, call your sprinkler people in the off-season, before it gets extremely hectic in the spring. Sometimes, repairs and maintenance are even less expensive when such services are not in such great demand. As I’m reviewing my own system, I see a number of corrections and changes that need to be made. 🍃🌳🍃 lf you look to the left in this image...by the massive trunk of a declining redbud tree, you’ll see a void where a stand of #nandinadomestica grows. But it had been severely damaged in this past winter’s weather. Here’s the SOLUTION and ANSWER to a question I’ve gotten over and over this spring: When can I #prune my #nandina ? ANSWER ➡️ Whenever you want and anywhere along the cane...including all the way to the ground. The shrub will force out and flush out with new fresh growth at the point of the cut. I have whacked them back all the way to the ground in spring (and other seasons as well) and by the end of the summer, they were back to almost the original height! Rain helps of course 😊. Do your nandina look like h___ after this winter? Do you want them to look fresh and vibrant again?
