I picked “geekybiologist” as a name 7 years ago when I thought I’d only use tumblr for lurking and never posting anything of my own. I’ve wanted to name my blog something else for such a long time, but suddenly it was my id and there would be countless of links that would break if I’d change it so I never could.
Today I realised that in order to avoid being stuck in that same predicament I have to pick and start using the name I want to keep using on this blog as soon as possible. So now I’m houkagokappa!

DO IT. If there isn’t enough merch of one them then the two together should make for a nice bag. You can also always start out with a small bag or look for some big decorations to hide the fact that you don’t have a lot of merch. I usually buy mine secondhand from Otamart and YJA or new from Amiami. Getting it to Finland will always be a pain, but every once in a while you find badges for just 100 yen or sets with lots of merch for 2000-3000 yen that are well worth it.

The good thing with itabags is that they’re constant ongoing projects so it’s easy to spend just a little on them each month and it won’t that feel bad at all. Just don’t count the total cost ever, like with all hobbies :’D
That’s fair! Since I’m just sewing clothes for cosplay for the first time I ended up buying a lot of extra stuff, and I don’t even want to think about the total amount of money I’ve spent on this costume already... it feels less bad when you don’t buy things in a bulk, hah. Shipping from Japan to Europe costs a leg and your mortal soul, but it’s the price we gotta pay. I also follow someone who’s also using fan-made products (pins and keychains) for the itabag they’re working on, which isn’t such a bad idea, since those can be bought from America and Europe, which is less expensive, and it still looks nice! (and since the source material is a small otome game, they’re also using two of their faves, which is where I really got the idea... and it’d not only be my faves, but my OTP too).
Thanks for the store recs too, I don’t know much about buying merch, and I had only seen someone else buy from mandarake and FromJapan (which actually had some keychains for 100 yen, though I didn’t check if those were auctions). Maybe I’ll look up more stores and stuff about itabags later~

Hi, geekybiologist here. I was on my dash when I got an ask and when I pressed the icon to go answer it tumblr logged me out. I tried to log back in but it didn’t work. I tried again using the “magic link” and got this page
I contacted support and asked for my blog back, but I have no idea if or when that’ll happen.
I’m sad to have lost all the blogging I’ve done on tumblr over the years, but more importantly upset over not being able to blog about Sarazanmai like usual now that the main PV just came out!!!!

Feel free to get back to me anytime regarding further advice, though I’m by no means an expert on this (I’ve just bought a lot over the years). Itabags are a really fun, though costly hobby! It would be really cool to see you make one for yourself :)
Thank you so much for the advice! (and sorry for not putting your other replies together here, manually pasting them with tumblr’s dumb system is a pain :p) I’ll have to actually bookmark some sites so I don’t forget the names by tomorrow, hah. And regarding that thing about mandarake, that’s good to know! It might help to look up reviews on some sites before ordering, unless it’s a site where people re-sell individually. I’ll have to look into those FB groups too (tho I don’t use Facebook at all OTL), since it’s a relatively popular fandom they might actually have something, and it’d be great to cut down on shipping.
