The intended audience for genre 1, the webpage, are students who plan to major in psychology and anyone who one day plans to become a type of Psychologist. This webpage is mainly used to inform the community about the status of minorities in psychology and any related career course. It is also used to pursue minorities to continue to aspire to become something great in life. The content also gives the readers statistics that helps inform people on how many minorities are actually working in this field. The audience of this webpage ultimately creates the diversity in the field by educating them on the issue. Its purpose relies on people from different backgrounds to inform themselves and help make change. This aspect opens up opportunities for minorities.
The audience that genre 2 is intended for is individuals who are either Latino or Hispanic and are pursuing Medicine as a career path. The purpose of this poster is to persuade the audience that anyone can become whatever they want to if they are determined, it does not matter what their race or ethnicity is. It is also to inform people that just because you do not look a certain stereotype that does not mean that it takes away from who you are. The audience ties in to the purpose because if it’s for the intended group of Latino’s or any other minority, then the purpose has to encourage them to go after their career paths.
The time it takes to get through the content in genre one is significantly more than genre two. Genre one focuses on short paragraphs with charts with statistics on them. The intended audience would take around 5-10 minutes to read the whole article. Genre two is one picture that has a quote that will take approximately up to 1 minute. The language in which genre one is written in will take longer to understand because it uses formal language. For example, understanding the census that are taken to collect all the date needed. Knowing this is a form of knowing the Formal language is used in articles. Whereas, in genre two the simple statement of “You Don’t Look Latino/a” makes it easy to understand. Even though both genres have their differences they also have similarities between them. Both are used to inform their audience. Even though both genre has different techniques in getting their point across, they both have the same purpose, which is to inform minorities that just because you are perceived as different it does not mean that you can not become a doctor or psychologist or anything you want to be in life.
