Here's my design for the Gent Class God Tier (and also my take the piss aspect palette)! I like the "joke" aspects very much lol; they're canon in my heart.
Sup guys, it’s me, back at it again with the Gents and Nicks
yes, last time was serious
The Nick as stated previously is the Active Provocation Class
They can do interesting attacks that tend to leave the enemy disoriented in some way. Their powers range from immobilizing the aspect (freezing Time or Space), shaking it up (folding space, twisting it, turning it like a rubix cube) or just supercharging it (causing space to vibrate or shake or grow).
You might be thinking “wow these guys sound op, why’d you make them OP AN?” The answer is cause they aren’t. The downside to their powers is that they have to focus, which causes it to be localized, more potent but localized. Their AP costs are through the roof for things better than the basic GT abilities.
At the beginning of their time as a Nick, they tend to be very combative towards their aspect and trying to bend it to their whim to no avail. Their aspect is a flaming tornado and often it can emotionally overwhelm them and make them not be able to do much. They often try to put down their aspect or make jokes of it.
The Aspect then loses it and then calms down, showing it’s true colors. The Nick sees themselves in this true form and resonates with it, as they know. The Aspect is Them. They then learn to trust their aspect to help them. They then start on a path of being able to move through the craziness of their aspect and get to know it and in general deal with the tornado. Their presence makes the aspect more tangible and this is their true advantage, making the aspect’s impact more potent.
Their challenge is to learn to Become one with the madness of their aspect but not let it rule them, to know the difference between reveling and becoming hedonistic.
The Gent on the other hand is the Passive Provocation Class.
Their abilities are similar to the Gents but they have a lower cost to use and are much less localized, like an AOE, less damage more area. They like to spread the “fun” around so to speak. Their powers are more support based, as in, they are more likely to assist their battle tactics using the powers rather than the tactics being the powers like Nick.
Gents are quite polite at the beginning, they form a sort of embarrassment towards their aspect and try to fix it, try to make it not so unstable. They desperately try to keep it from falling apart but when they finally let it go, it transforms into something astonishing, beautiful even.
Then the flaming inferno becomes clear, it becomes clear that the mania the aspect presents resonates with the suppressed urges of the Gent. They then learn to guide the aspect in a way that creates a better outcome for others. The Gent recognizes the primal nature of the aspect and knows it must be free to do wonders.
Their challenge is to step out of the shadows and know that their aspect is them and they don’t need to fight it. They need to embrace it. For much of their existence they were a background character and simply subtly influenced people around them but often were a cryptid type of person. When they come into their own, their influence skyrockets and people take notice.
you guys remember how fedoraFreak is a Gent of Piss
or how Nick Cage is a Nick of Time?
Yea, You’re in for a Wild Ride
Nick
Verb: Provoke
Counterpart: Gent
Inverse: Muse
Players: Nick Cage (Nick of Time), Andrew Hussie (Nick of Space)
Nicks Provoke their aspect, or Provoke through it for their own benefit. Their bullshit brings a domino effect of consequences that they intend to lead to their victory, even if it’s not the one intended. This can be seen through Hussie, he just completely fucks over the Creative Direction of Homestuck into proving himself right. As can be seen here
Hussie forshadowed this in his conversations with Caliborn. This blatant buffoonery is all due to his Class as the Nick. What happened is He couldn’t defeat Caliborn/Lord English in the Short Term(since he kind of had a buffet of bullets in his lungs and stomach) but in the long term, the story would aid him. Hussie saying Caliborn will die in proximity of Horses is purely a statement of facts, not a prediction. He knew this was going to happen at some point, but when is unknown. Thus since he would die in proximity of horses, that means he was going to die.
Gents
Verbage: Provoke
Counterpart: Nick
Inverse: Lord
Players: Doc Scratch (Gent of Space) fedoraFreak (Gent of Piss)
Gents Provoke their aspect or Provoke through their aspect for the benefit of others. Their Domino effects can also get much more vast in scale. Before you even know of their antics, they have likely already won.
On the matter of their bullshit. Their bullshit and mind games are much less noticeable... unless you count trapping a young alien troll girl with magical powers and a school girl uniform and raising her to be the servant to almost Literal Fucking Satan as this.
Yes, you did read the example list correctly, do not go to the Eye Doctor to get them exchanged, nor do you need to wipe off your cool kid shades. Doc Scratch is indeed a Gent of Space, he’s much too chill and patient to be a Time Player or an active class for that matter since he works for Lord English, this makes him more likely to be a passive class due to the nature of Passive vs Active.
He also has a much more kindly demeanor than say Hussie, this gives him an air of being a Gentleman. Quite distinguished, is he not?
A Ruffian wouldn’t be caught dead in this much fashion. He even neatly hanged his holster on the chair. Good sir I say...well, until you know, he becomes horrible.
Due to the differences in LE’s and Scratch’s Characters, it’s easier to treat them as separate characters. His provocation is less about creative direction and more about evolution and the growth of the universe that the trolls inhabit. Making it much more violent and making it make the blood castes mimic the aspects of the true signs, creating a universe that would pretty much encourage the players to thrive and be able to play sgrub, ensuring LE’s emergence.
Welp, these are my thoughts. I hope you all enjoy this little concept
PS. Waste was never a class, Hussie said “waste of space” not “WASTE of SPACE” or “Waste of Space”
