When the two of you had clashed throughout your Unovan journey, N had seemed fairly calm and collected. His speech had been strange, his claims of royalty even stranger, and his eyes had seen right through you. But now, with the two of you stumbling out of your rented rooms in a Galarian Pokémon Center, you can’t understand how anyone could’ve considered him inhuman.
It turns out that, without the responsibility of legends resting heavy on his head, N is a very sweet young man. He’s still somewhat shy around you, especially now that you’re spending so much time close together— he did spend most of his life in complete isolation, after all. He’s not quite sure how to approach you as a friend. And no matter how you try to assure him that Team Plasma wasn’t his fault, it’s very clear that N carries sadness with him whenever he looks at you. He feels like he has to make up for something, even though you never blamed him to begin with.
You’re not quite sure why the two of you ended up in Galar; N had simply been desperate to flee Unova and all his sins, and you’d followed. At the moment, N isn’t interested in starting a gym challenge of his own, although if you’d like to do that as you travel together he’ll be more than supportive. For now, he’s just trying to figure himself out as a person. He’s interested in the culture of other regions; having spent his entire life in one room, with information being spoonfed to him, he wants to learn as much as possible about the world.
Beforehand, you hadn’t gotten to see much of his special abilities; now that you’re together all the time, though, you get to watch him interacting with Pokémon on his own level. The fact that he can speak with them is especially helpful when you’re between towns— he asks wild Pokémon to help the both of you gather food, and then the two of you spend an evening cooking out in the wild.
You learn that he’s not a morning person. He’s also never had coffee before— when you offer him a sip of yours, a blatantly fake smile paints its way across his face, betraying his words as he tells you he likes it. He’s a fast learner when it comes to technology; you’re still carrying your old pokédex, and when it goes haywire, he’s able to fix it despite having never touched one before. He eats berries alongside his Pokémon— you’d considered that an oddity as well, but then he’d gotten you to take a bite of a Pecha berry too. There are many nights he can’t sleep, so he’ll shyly knock on the door of your Pokémon center room and ask if he can stay with you for awhile; on those nights, he just talks and talks and talks about everything that crosses his mind. You’re more than willing to listen.
