Alright if you HAD to pick one as a boyfriend(you can't dump them), who would you pick? Max Sonnen(The Resident) or Joe Goldberg(Netflix's 'You')?
Okay, you’re about to get a bit of a book and I apologize for that, but as someone who has seen both of those things, I can hands down tell you I would pick Max and not just because his face claim is JDM.
First of all, let me start this off by telling you I don’t condone any of the actions that Max did at the end of the film, but...looking at his character from a psychological standpoint, you have to look at Max’s background. Max came from an abusive background. His father killed his mother when he was a child and because of that, his grandfather became his guardian. That grandfather was the father to his mother. It was clearly stated that his grandfather abused him his entire life for his father killing his mother. Because of that Max never thought it was possible that he would be able to be loved that’s why he hid behind the walls. It was clearly hard for him to make personal relationships with anyone because he was afraid that he was the monster and the person that his grandfather led him to believe he was.
I GENUINELY believe that if someone, not Juliette because she was in love with her ex-boyfriend would have started a relationship with Max, I think he would have never snapped and I think it would have actually been a decent relationship. Unfortunately, he became obsessed with the wrong person which drove him crazy and he did awful things. But I do believe that if he was put in a relationship where he was genuinely, truly loved...I think other than an occasional few ‘jealous’ moments, you would be fine and likely have a very happy relationship together because if Max felt he was loved, I really believe that honestly could have saved him.
Joe, I feel like there is no saving that boy. He has his idea of perfect. It is never enough in his relationships. I personally believe nothing would ever be enough for that character. He becomes obsessed with moments. Ideologies of what he thinks could be perfect, but you do one thing wrong and you’re fucked with Joe. Where as I truly genuinely believe if someone showed Max real, genuine love...someone could have saved him from himself. Joe, I don’t think there is any helping. Sorry for getting so deep lol.
