"Clem turned the page and found another colour plate, covered with a layer of protective tissue. Someone was kneeling before a figure in a black feathered cloak. The cloak had a hood that shrouded the wearer’s face in deep shadow. All that could be seen beneath it was the glint of eyes..."

Two months went by & the house was still empty
I went to see it with you one afternoon
From the outside it mostly looked the same
but it wasn’t mine anymore
Something indefinable
had gone
Weeds stood tall as our heads
& plastic sheeting snapped in the wind

interlude number 7 is here! this will be the last interlude for a little while, but there will be other bits and pieces (short stories, articles, reviews, poems, etc) to fill the gap, as well as some bonus paywalled content :-) chapter 8 will be up on december 8th, appropriately. hope you enjoy
Clem jumped down on to the tracks, and Hyacinth followed suit. His boots clanged on the metal rail. ‘Last time I was down here,’ he said, ‘that light was broken.’ He pointed towards a bulb overhead. ‘That one. Third from the end.’
‘And now it’s not,’ said Jasmine. ‘What does that mean, I wonder?’
‘Engineers,’ said Hyacinth darkly, and switched on the hurricane lamp.

chapter five of "ghostless" is up! this one's a little shorter than usual because i had to split it into two parts. next update will be on october 13th; interlude and further reading will be... sometime in the next two weeks, probably.
Clem circled back around to the front of the shop. Nobody was at the counter. Stepping closer, though, she noticed a small brass bell – the kind you might find at a reception desk in an old-fashioned hotel. The sticker next to it said 'Ring for assistance'.
She pressed the bell firmly. Nothing happened.
‘That doesn’t work,’ said a deep voice from under the counter.
hello all! apologies for the lateness of this chapter - i've been away and haven't had the chance to get any edits done until now. the next chapter will be posted on the 22nd of september, with interlude and additional reading posted sometime in the next 2 weeks.
additional apologies to members of the paid tier, who have not received any exclusive content this past month. i will be posting some extra stuff in september to make up for it - one tie-in short story, one standalone short story, and (if i have the chance!) some character illustrations.
in coming months, i'm also hoping to post some short glimpses at my current works-in-progress, including "fruiting bodies" (fungal horror), "shuck" (folk horror), "the warp and the weft" (comic fantasy, and the origin of this post), and "they seem hospitable here" (murder mystery). stay tuned!
He leaned forwards; his eyes had a feverish glint. ‘If we work together, you and me, we could pull off something big. Something they'll really notice.'
‘For the last time, Elijah, there is no you and me.'
He dismissed this with a careless wave of the hand. His voice turned soft and cajoling. ‘C’mon. You’re interested, aren't you? I can tell.'
Val was about to snap back that she wasn't interested, not in any sense of the word – but before she could, the door creaked open again, seemingly of its own accord.
