After edging past Everton, Tottenham Hotspur limped to a drab draw at Bournemouth. Tottenham must quickly turn this form around as they head into the north London derby at the weekend. Spurs were spared any further blushes after Callum Wilson’s late winner was ruled out by VAR. The Cherries thought he had scored a screamer until it was disallowed by the video assistant referee. Tottenham now face Arsenal for the first time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in front of absolutely no one. Spurs seemed destined for greatness after the Champions League final, although Jose Mourinho hasn’t offered anything remotely close to Mauricio Pochettino’s heydays so far. Mourinho will be well aware his side face an uphill struggle to reach the top four, as the Lilywhites lie ninth in the Premier League table, a point behind their arch-rivals, with everything left to play for when the two sides collide on Sunday. Transfer Tavern have put together a predicted starting lineup, which sees the Portuguese pick arguably his strongest side available, as Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura and Tanguy Ndombele return. Dele Alli missed the past two games against Everton and Bournemouth after sustaining a hamstring injury, and questions still remain over whether or not he will be ready to return. Working on the proviso that he won’t have recovered in time, it seems logical to assume Mourinho will stick with the 4-3-3 attacking formation, which he has used ever since Alli has been unavailable for selection. Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld made a surprise start together for the first time in ages. While Vertonghen would have been expected to make way for Eric Dier, who has made the position his own in recent weeks, the England man has been banned for four games by the FA and will miss the derby as a result. The Lilywhites have leaked goals for fun throughout the season, as they have conceded more goals than Manchester United, Sheffield United and Premier League champions Liverpool so far. Although Vertonghen and Alderweireld haven’t been at their best this season, their experience could prove vital as they try to fend off waves of attacks from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nicolas Pepe. The change in formation clearly worked as it allowed Giovani Lo Celso to cause all sorts of problems for Bournemouth in the final third. However, Spurs were desperate for someone to inspire the team to victory, and Tanguy Ndombele’s introduction seemed to make a difference, even if they didn’t come away with the vital three points. Steven Bergwijn struggled to make much of an impression and he was eventually replaced by Son Heung-min. Lucas Moura seems to score in big games, as many still fondly remember his Champions League heroics last year. Both Lucas and Son could come back into the XI here at the expense of the Dutchman and Erik Lamela. There is surely no better time for Mourinho to fully unleash Ndombele against Arsenal, as the Frenchman gave the boss a glimpse of what he has to offer in the draw with the Cherries. The pair are in the middle of a public spat but they arguably need each other to save their careers. He changed the tempo almost immediately and could provide Harry Kane with the service he desperately needs. Spurs have only scored two goals in the past three games, which should be giving Mourinho cause for concern. At this stage, even scoring a goal would be a great start, and keeping a clean sheet would be an added bonus. Tottenham fans, do you think this is how Mourinho will start against Arsenal? Tottenham Hotspur have launched an offer for Bayern Munich wonderkid Taylor Booth, according to Football Insider. Tottenham are trying to prise the teenager away from the Allianz Arena in the summer, despite the fact he has two years remaining on his current contract. A source close to the situation told the outlet Spurs are prepared to hand the prospect a lucrative professional contract. The Daily Mail recently reported the 18-year-old impressed backroom staff with his performance against the Lilywhites in the UEFA Youth League last year. Booth signed for Bayern back in January 2019, but has grown frustrated with the lack of opportunities in Hans-Dieter Flick’s senior squad, and Spurs have already made the first move. Consequently, this latest development could be bad news for Harry Winks. Ever since he arrived at the Bundesliga champions in 2019, the American has been tipped for greatness, after he put in an impressive performance as Bayern’s Under-19s thrashed Tottenham 3-0 back in December, finishing the game with a tally of two assists. Moreover, the holding midfielder has been capped by USA at all levels up to his age group. He has also regularly featured in the German youth league, creating 3 assists in 11 games so far (Transfermarkt). On the other hand, Winks has arguably struggled for consistency up until now. Remarkably, the 24-year-old is still yet to score or create an assist in all competitions at the time of writing. Indeed, the Englishman has failed to register a single goal or assist in the Premier League this season, taking a mere 0.4 shots per game, averaging under one clearance, although he has made 1.3 tackles on average in the English top flight (WhoScored). Daniel Levy is set to try to lure Booth away with an offer the club feels he won’t be able to resist. As it stands, the whizzkid is unsure about his future at the German giants, as Die Roten are on course to claim another league title after beating rivals Borussia Dortmund earlier this week. Spurs have a history of developing young players into world-class talents, with the club churning out the likes of Harry Kane and Gareth Bale in recent years. If Booth moves to England in the upcoming transfer window, it is Winks who could miss out on a place in the squad in the future, as he has been unable to shield the defence over the course of the campaign. Furthermore, Daniel Levy splashed the cash to sign Tanguy Ndombele, so it is unlikely the chairman would be willing for the club’s record signing to make room for the American teen in the squad. Giovani Lo Celso has also received a higher rating than his English counterpart via WhoScored. Mourinho has certainly given the England international plenty of chances, but he has largely failed to live up to expectations so far, and he stands to lose the most if Booth joins the North London club. Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy is attempting to drive down the price of midfielder Giovani Lo Celso in this transfer window, per iNews. WHAT’S THE WORD? The Argentina international is currently on loan at Spurs but the club hold two options to sign him permanently. The deal includes a compulsory purchase option that kicks in if Spurs qualify for the Champions League and stands at €40m (£34m). However, Spurs can sign him in January for a reduced fee of €32m (£27.2m). The report, though, states that Levy is attempting to negotiate that price to below €30m (£25.5m). Betis, though, are said to be holding firm and are refusing to negotiate with the north London club. The Spanish club, however, are not said to have any expectations that he will return to the Liga club. The big fat Tottenham quiz of 2019 – how much do you remember about the last year at Spurs? A JOKE Levy needs to stop beating around the bush and try to get this deal done. The two clubs struck an agreement in the summer and the Spurs chairman needs to honour that instead of haggling over the price. The Premier League club simply need to pay up if they are going to keep the Argentine, who has yet to make a serious impact at the club. He has started just two games in the top-flight under both Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho. But, nevertheless, the conditions are clear and Levy needs to stick to them, especially if he wants to save that £4.8m. Meanwhile, Spurs boss Jose Mourinho has made a huge transfer demand. #PremierLeague #GiovaniLoCelso #JoseMourinho
