fanfic where ac2’s ezio (before his family gets halved) and brotherhood’s ezio get swapped when?

young ezio being woken up by very confused novices in rome, and then getting straight up adopted by them once they realize that its their mentor, only young af (im sure they are desensitized to strange shit happening at this point, moreover if it revolves sround ezio).

this one starts as funny and then becomes slowly angstier the more it goes on, once ezio discovers that a big part of his family has been killed, and learning that he is also a mentor to many young assassins in this future, and there is an heavy burden of being the mentor, the one who would stop the borgias, the strong assassin that built the brotherhood back again that young ezio might just not be able to carry.

older ezio being woken up by his own sister’s scream because ‘FATHER THERE IS AN OLD MAN IN EZIO’S BED!’. cue ezio trying to not get murked by his older brother and father (who should be both dead and no ezio wont think about that—). its only after ezio reveals he’s in the assassin brotherhood that the two are somewhat more amenable to talk. cue a long, emotional talk.

this segment would start as angst (despite ezio’s rough wakeup call), and go on to become more ridiculous by the minute, with how ezio acts like a fucking cryptid. his steps make no noise. he brings an insane amount of feathers to petruccio. he teaches claudia to fight. mf nods like a mafia don whenever he’s talked to. giovanni is having an aneurysm because he cant seem to catch the dude murdering so many prominent figures. ezios eyes are golden brown instead of their usual chocolate like color. he has a beard and it pisses all three of his siblings off because people on the streets flirt with him sO fucking much. and ezio is so busy being a mother hen to his own siblings that he doesnt even flirt back which is the weirdest shit to all of them.

Hot take, no one is calling Giovanni Auditore by his correct full title.

Hear me out.

Giovanni Auditore da Firenze, father of our beloved Ezio Auditore da Firenze, wasn't born in Firenze/Florence. He was born in Monteriggioni. This is confirmed in AC2 in the Auditore Crypt, and the fact that Monteriggioni has the Auditore family home.

I did some rabbit hole diving, because something tickled me wrong with this. Why was he "da Firenze"? And after surfacing, I had my answer.

He's not. Historically, you retain your hometown when you move to a new city/town/village/etc so others can identify where you are from. So he would ACTUALLY be Giovanni Auditore da Monteriggioni.

And before you try to snag me on a technicality (Because I know who my audience is, we were raised on the history lesson wrapped up in a fantastic game, so I know you're probably thinking wouldn't you go by region? So "da Toscana/Tuscany"?) Leonardo daVinci, born in a small city outside of Firenze, would have been da Firenze like Ezio. And he wasn't. So yes, Giovanni would have been da Monteriggioni. 😁

I'm silly proud of this and it is absolutely being scribbled into my story as you read this.

Look there's nothing that says any of the Assassin's Creed characters have to be cis but I think there should be a list of those that definitely aren't.

Characters that are trans, congruent to canon gender:

-Ezio: He just is trans to me. There's no other way to explain it. How did he have kids at an advanced age if he should be post-menopausal? With the combination of Isu genetics and the sheer power of Ezio Auditore I think he could pull off two geriatric pregnancies.

-Kassandra: Like Ezio, she just is.

-Desmond: Part of the reason he ran away. Start fresh, leave the cult you were raised in, change your gender.

-Lucy: She's done some bad things for that Abstergo supplied estrogen. It's okay though, I forgive her.

-Evie and Jacob: Counting them as one because they swapped both names and genders.

Characters that are trans in a different way from their canon gender

-Maria Thorpe: Something tells me she might have liked pretending to be Robert de Sable a little too much. And she was a tomboy growing up so there’s signs.

-Mary Read: Come on. Mary does not have a shred of binary, you don't spend that long being disguised. You can't commit to the bit that much before it becomes a part of you. Anyways Mary is genderfluid. You agree.

-Eivor: Being genderfluid is the easiest reconciliation of male/female Eivor. Also they're the reincarnation of Loki, the genderfuckiest god in the Norse pantheon. Edit: Eivor is Odin’s reincarnation, not Loki’s. Oops. My point still stands though and I do think Eivor is genderfluid.

-Giovanni Auditore: This one is really hard to explain without going on a whole rant but just know that he is nonbinary. To me okay. To me.

The only exception I can think of is Haytham, who is very much a cis man and I cannot fathom him as otherwise.

Maria and Patron Desmond

Maria knew Leonardo back then, it wouldn’t be a stretch for Desmond to meet her due to her wanting to commission him.

They might be able to build a type of friendship or at least have a couple talks before Assassins start looking into Desmond.

Desmond and Maria would be a fun duo, he’d be able to get to know her before the loss of her family. From the small bit we saw of her in the games beforehand I think they’d get along.

I wonder what her impression of Desmond would be?

Giovanni could be interesting too, though I don’t think he’d meet Desmond directly unless he tagged along with Maria. He’d probably hear of Desmond however, if Desmond is trying to set up connections it would no doubt reach Giovanni’s ears.

Federico has more of a chance at running into Desmond, along with Ezio. They all have a habit of running on rooftops, I imagine that during a race they find Desmond climbing a nearby building. Maybe it’s during the sunrise or dusk and Desmond wanted to see the view.

I would assume Federico is aware of the Assassins even if Ezio isn’t. Would he assume Desmond is an Assassin? Or has been trained by one?

@ikiracake mentioned Desmond having the habit of going to the rooftops and while originally I threw out the idea of him running into Giovanni I swapped it to Ezio and Federico since they’d probably be rooftop running more than their dad.
