There were no words. Luke stared in wide-eyed disbelief into the distance, not connecting with Padmé or anything but the sinking feeling of betrayal. His skin paled, swallowing on a dry throat. Part of him wants to curl up in her arms, pretend it was all some bad dream. But Luke knows he has to be strong, has to keep that distance. He wasn’t a kid anymore, he had to stand on his own two feet.
❛ So, instead, you waited for me to find out the hard way? You should have told me, mom, ❜ did she really think him so shallow that he’d walk out the door if he heard the truth? That Darth Vader was his father? How he’d protested in complete disbelief when he heard, not wanting to accept the hard truth he knew in his heart. ❛ I didn’t want to believe him at first, I kept waiting for him to say he was lying. Because - I thought - my mom would have told me if Vader was my father. ❜
I was terrified. I didn’t know what to do.
the weight of her guilt falls harder on her as he speaks of her betrayal --- the title : MOM used to cut her deeply . lying to her children had never been the path she wished to take ; leaving them to be taken care of by other people was never what she wanted . her choices had been stripped from her long before luke & leia could begin to understand what they were being born into . tears fill the brim of her eyelids as looks upon his beaten & bruised form . she silently c u r s e d anakin for his horrid actions against their son --- the son knew about .
❝ i NEVER wanted you to know . . . at all . ❞ the curt confession slipping from her lips quicker than her ability to stop it . it shocked even herself , but it was the truth . meekly she steps forward , placing two gentle hands on each side of his head ; lightly combing through his shaggy blonde hair in hopes of calming his panic . ❝ please --- luke . . . i only mean i wished for you to only know him as he was . not the man he’s become . . . a man who would do this to his son . ❞
