Adam Opel family cashed out: GM took a majority of Opel stock in 1929, completing the $66.7 million-dollar sale in 1931 and making Adam Opel AG a wholly-owned subsidiary. Ever since then there has been significant alliance between Buick and Opel, particularly after General Motors (GM) sold Opel and its sister brand Vauxhall to PSA Group (now part of Stellantis) in 2017. This alliance led to Buick models being based on, or even rebadged versions of, Opel and Vauxhall vehicles. However, this alliance is no longer in place, and Buick is now developing its own unique models, according to GM Authority.

Opel had a close relationship for a time, with Opel-built vehicles being sold under the Buick nameplate, particularly in North America and China. However, this arrangement ended when General Motors sold Opel and its sister brand, Vauxhall, to PSA Group in 2017.
