The night was cool and dark, much nicer than most nights. The night-life was busy and bright with the lights of the city. The streets were not busy but there were still some odd people hanging about at this hour but for the most part the night was calm.
Takeru was restless. Who knows when the last time he had a proper sleep or a decent meal. At least most nights he always had something to keep him occupied but tonight? He had nothing. For once he actually had a quiet peaceful evening. And it disturbed him. He hated not being busy. He paced around the warehouse unsure of what to do. Finally he gave up and decided to wander the unfamiliar streets of Seoul.
Despite ‘living’ in Seoul now for awhile, Takeru never properly wandered the city. Even though Japan and South Korea were close to each other Takeru found their cultures differed greatly. He has been so focused on his mission he never did take the time to actually explore and learn the culture of the foreign country. He walked the streets with his hands in his pockets trying to get used to the sights and sounds. He was raised in a dark, four-walled room after all. He still had problems getting used to such open spaces and big towers.
He did try to walk around but it was no fun when you didn’t know anybody to show you around. True, he could speak Korean but he could not read much Korean and ended up getting himself lost. It’s not like he really had anywhere to be or had anyone waiting for him. So it did not matter whether he was gone for long periods of time. Hopefully no one else on the streets would find their way to where Takeru was holed up.
The more he wandered around the more frustrated he became. There he saw that fountain in the centre of the square. He sauntered towards it and decided to sit on its edge with a hand in the water. With he his free hand he rummaged around his pockets with his free hand and pulled out a carton which contained two cigarettes. He was saving them for moments of victory but decided now was a good time to have one. He would save the last one for another time. Thus he hung his head and took a breath from the cigarette.
