She’s uneasy around the blond male, can remember the black of his eyes as a child and it scared her. His eyes may no longer be black, but she knew the effects of Valentine’s experiments were still there.
There’s some guilt there too, she’s still a mother, no matter how evil she believes him to be. “Jonathon,” she says, standing a fair distance from the boy. “Valentine did this. You have to understand the choices I made.” Why she tried to kill him.
SWEAT IS TRICKLING DOWN THE SMALL OF HIS BACK, soaking through the thin fabric of his shirt along his spine. It feels like they’ve been at this forever, and Clark is tired. He flexes his fingers around the staff that is raising callouses on his palms, and stares across the training room at Jace, who is also slick with sweat, hair damp and pushed from his face, cheeks flushed. Surely, he must be getting tired, too. Did Jace even get tired? This time feels different. It doesn’t feel like they’re just training, the way Clark does with Izzy. It’s like Jace is trying to bleed himself dry, coming harder and faster than usual. Careful, always, not to injure Clark beyond repair, but Clark can tell he’s holding back.
HE CAN SEE THE TENSION IN JACE’S SHOULDERS, in the line of his jaw. He’s made mistakes, been sloppy, landed wrong, and he’s favouring his left side. Probably injured himself, throwing himself too hard into every move. Clark wishes he could take credit for that, but as per usual, he hasn’t been able to get in much hit wise. Not that he’s totally useless, but today -- today, he can hardy land a strike. “Jace? I think we can call it,” he suggests, somewhat hesitantly. “I think I’m going to fall over if we keep going.” No point in telling Jace that he looks exhausted, that won’t get them anywhere. He walks towards the wall of weapons, and sets his staff down on the wooden frame. Jace still looks like a cornered animal, his breath ragged. “Jace?” He’s pushing himself too hard. Clark shouldn’t have agreed to spar with him at all. Alec was going to kick his ass. “Come on, let’s take a break.” He approaches Jace cautiously, hand out to reach for his staff. / @goldenherons
