levy cannot deny a certain sense of  curiosity  concerning fairy tail’s new member,  the golden - haired girl dragged through the guild’s towering front doors by natsu a few days prior.  it seems to be a sentiment shared by many,  heads turning as she passes and eyes following her as she crosses the guild hall,  interest painted in their expressions,  and despite it all she seems to have settled amidst the chaos just fine.  there’s always a certain sense of fascination with a new member,  the prospect proving exciting to most --  however,  levy is not usually so  intrigued.

it’s strange,  how she seems drawn to the blonde,  but over the years she has only grown braver.  rather than remain seated at her table across the guild hall,  she stands,  making her way over  (  paying no heed to the confusion expressed by her teammates as she wanders off without warning  )  to the other girl’s side.  however,  as she draws close,  she finds herself unable to formulate a greeting that seems  welcoming  enough --  strange,  for one so heavily buried amongst language and writings.  rather than sounding anything resembling eloquent,  she simply smiles,  stumbling over a   ❝   welcome to fairy tail !   ❞   that the girl has likely heard a million times over.  it’s a moment afterwards that attentive hazel catches sight of a book resting on the table before the girl --  recognition dawns instantly,  the pattern etched into the cover unmistakeable to levy.

❝   ah,  you like this series too ?  this volume isn’t my  favourite,  but --   ❞   a hand flies to her mouth,  fingertips brushing her upper lip,  as she realises far too belatedly how close to rambling she had drawn.  barely a moment passes before embarrassment finds home on her features,  the slightest hint of mirth in the edge of her voice as she speaks up,  apology on the tip of her tongue.   ❝   ... sorry,  maybe talking your ear off about books isn’t the best introduction.   ❞   a hand is held outstretched,  expression overtaken by a smile she prays is welcoming.

❝    lu - chan …    ❞    there’s something akin to mourning in the blonde’s tone,  something that tugs at her heartstrings.  she cannot help but find that lucy’s smile does not quite reach her eyes,  the usual brightness missing from her expression,  an absence that leaves her feeling somehow  empty.  gentle hands slowly close the book laid out before her,  attentive hazel noting the page number before it becomes obscured.  in place of the familiar cover,  her hand moves to rest upon lucy’s shoulder,  and she speaks in a calm yet  insistent  tone.   ❝   that’s not true !  there are plenty of things people don’t know about you,  and that’s what makes being friends with you so fun.  we’re constantly learning more about you !!   ❞

insistence soon calms into gentleness,  a soft smile gracing the script mage’s expression as she moves to take lucy’s hands into her own,  standing up shortly afterwards.    ❝   want to go out for lunch,  to take your mind off things ?   ❞   leaning forward,  she winks,  small smile evolving into one both larger and far brighter.   ❝   you need to tell me more about that novel of yours,  after all !!   ❞
